Re: Shearer. Boo. Come in here
Here is my attempt at trying to explain sand slug swell tapering. The key to understanding how a sand slug works is to visualise energy moving at an angle in the swell line. It is easier to explain with a diagram. This diagram shows the wave breaking zone between the shore and the black line. It als...

It looks like the sand dredging boat can piss the sand about 120 metres.
If you look closely you can read the boats name.

Re: Shearer. Boo. Come in here
I would like to see the Gold Coast engineers build a permanent sand slug using sand filled geotextile bags. A swell that has travelled over a sand slug gets transformed into a tapered swell. A tapered swell might be say 5ft one end and 3ft the other end. A tapered swell then breaks as a peeling wave...

Re: Shearer. Boo. Come in here
Creating an underwater valley {yellow line} off a beach out past where the waves break, running west to east will create peaks either side, in other words you can create a surf break by removing sand and dump the sand elsewhere to create another surf break. http://i602.photobucket.com/albums/tt110/k...

Re: Shearer. Boo. Come in here
Thanks for the info.
Fantastic news that they are going to complete the Narrowneck reef and use sand filled geotextile bags which will be more permanent than pumped sand.

Re: Shearer. Boo. Come in here
Why not finish the Narrowneck reef, there is a sandbag foundation already there. The reason they could not make it shallow enough was because the Mcquade dredge is a bottom dumper and cannot work/open up/move away in shallow water. With the 'rainbowing' sand pumping technique they are using this tim...

Re: Epoxy longboard repair
Ended up finding a similar (surfboard warehouse) board on the bumtree for similar dollars. I'll just start again and know never to leave it on the roof between OCT-MAR. Or to be on the safe side put in one of those goretex vent plugs that allow expanding hot air to release but don't let water in. T...

Re: Wave Garden Cove
It was Drouyns engineering mind that pointed out the bathymetry shaping in Kelly Slaters wavepool. In other words proof of concept that if you transferred this bathymetry to the ocean you would get a similar wave if there were no tide changes. Note the 2 pools, I wonder if they have plans for experi...

Re: Where did you surf today ?
Aye! Currumbin 2-3 ft, got 2 long ones, banks are good, with todays swell angle creating multiple take off spots.
Checked Rainbow and Greeny but not much swell getting in there, only 1 foot and lots of surfers doing lots of waiting.

A bonzer zot! All would be forgiven, I think the deep concaves on Malcolm's bonzers work in conjunction with the angled side fins so this might be an issue for the dome.....but please let us know if ya bonzer up ya zot. Please send GM a pic & let us know his response  Gunna call it Quabonzazot...

What quad fins are u gonna try Cranky? Sounds like a super fun experiment, I like the outline of the zot I've got 2 sets of Stretch quads, might as well use them. But anything around an FCS M5 at the front and GQ for the rears is OK. Sometimes I like the feel of double foiled in the rear. I'm still...
