Re: 2013 World Tour Predictions

Who knows? I personally think pretty much any of the top 12 or so have the talent to win, except maybe Josh Kerr because I reckon his rail surfing on the face is behind the other guys. I'm backing any Aussie in with a chance of winning, especially Parko, but yeah, if Jordy surfs to his ability consi...

Re: Dark Pandemonium: Parko@Pipe.

Yeah maybe. I suspect the Billabong market to 'people who don't surf' is far bigger than the market of 'groms likely to shift their wettie or boardy choice to Bong because Parko won'. It can't hurt though. I'm still super stoked for Parko. Wouldn't it be great to see him win another world title or t...

Re: Dark Pandemonium: Parko@Pipe.

I'm so stoked for Parko. Like many others one Slater got to the Quarters I was too nervous to watch. I can't believe how invested I was given I've never met the bloke. But I felt in my bones this guy deserved a world title and that it would be an injustice to his talent and performance if he walked ...

Re: Dark Pandemonium: Parko@Pipe.

My takeways from Day 2; There are surprisingly few Aussies in the last few rounds. Mick just got beaten by Dorian. Kerr just pipped Bede. Kai felt dudded by a priority call against the messiah. Parko surfed great though. I really hate so many pipe specialist wild cards. I just think it's real amateu...

Re: Dark Pandemonium: Parko@Pipe.

That's the thing. If Parko tried to compete like Slater he'd be frazzled and lose his composure. He needs to compete in a way that works for him. If that means sitting waiting for the best wave even though there are only two minutes left in the heat so be it. Doing a KS and trying monster airs on 6 ...

Re: Santa

slater might not have the 'my family' set up, but remember, he does have a teenage daughter, and a long term GF, who seems to be at most of the contests. what difference does a wedding ring make other than making your wallet 30k lighter..... All kids are different. Thats a given. But virtuall...

Re: Santa

From what I've seen Kelly seems far more invested in winning the world tile than Joel, which is weird since Kelly has 11 of them and you'd think he'd be satiated, and Joel has none and you'd think he'd be desperately hungry. Part of it is no doubt Joel trying to control his thoughts and stay relaxed...

Re: Santa

I agree on that. I reckon if you compared spray, size of arc and critical positioning Parkos surfing is as dynamic as anyone else. Maybe he should wave his arms about and fall off lie about in the soup for 5 seconds before regaining his feet.

Re: Santa

You can tell when guys in heats are claiming out of pure emotion and stoke and it's often hilarious and affecting, it's also usually in massive horrific pits, for which you can't help forgive 'em I reckon. I s'pose. The punter getting a little head dip on sunday morning at curly is my issue. Its be...

Re: Santa

That was a huge air, fully committed. The crowd thought he got it. The commentators seemed to think he might. The judges seem to be the only ones who thought it wasn't in the ball park.

Re: Miller surfboards

Yeah, it's great news Grant's back. He's a fantastic shaper and great bloke. I'll be getting a new board as soon as finances allow, but I've lost my place in the queue! I'd personally get a board from Grant ahead of Webber - more about the construction qualities than the shapes. Both are great shape...

Re: review of Mccoy Astron Zot

I've been contemplating selling my single fin nugget for some time but just haven't got around to putting it on ebay. It's 6'6" x 20" x 2.75" in good nick with a couple of minor dings sealed by me with sun cure resin, and the usual deck indentations. Overall its a good board though in good nick. Any...

Re: Could you swim 1km?

I used to swim State level, I know I can (and do) swim 1km in around 20 mins without pushing myself excessively, but to be honest I have no idea if I could swim 100m in 90 swecs or under - I rarely push myself over my high 50 something second lap pace except when overtaking other swimmers. I have no...

Re: review of Mccoy Astron Zot

You're being a bit harsh on old IB there I reckon. Definitely not pro-level ripping but not bad surfing. The multi mini turns were a bit annoying though, I agree. But I think that vid kind of supports what most people say about the McCoys. When the wave had a bit more shape IB was noticeably travell...

Re: Peniche

The judges seem to react to the drama of a buzzer beater, and reward it. It happens all the time. Medina's only 18 so I reckon he deserves some slack. He does need to learn to lose with dignity but when Slater thinks its ok to continue surfing in the competition area post heat, smashes up his board ...
