WTF! Shark attack insurance (no, really)

I thought that I had heard it all but in the latest WTF news an Insurance company for a premium of $130 a year is offering coverage of $50,000 for any surfer killed in a shark attack (source: todays Manly Daily, page 5). Sounds like a sure-fire way for an insurance company to collect premiums knowin...

Re: Byron is buggered

Indeed. It would have to be in amongst the top of the well and truly 'buggered' spots listing but still can attract the many and varied sideshow of flotsam and jetsam from Melbourne and Sydney ( northern beaches transplants mostly- don't know why?) and the international glitterati from euro trash b...

Re: Hawaii in May

Carry it 1960s style, just balance it on your head. You can get smaller boards from the beach boys.

Re: Hawaii in May

The Waikiki beach boys are always there to rent you a board so if your wife is otherwise occupied you can sneak in a few waves. It seldom gets totally flat and their mals are so damned large you can even catch a fart-induced bubble on them. Otherwise Diamond Head Beach and Ala Moana Beach always see...

Not for her it didn't. But it doesn't really bother me. If you've got it flaunt it especially as it doesn't look like Steph will catch up now. What does bother me about her is her and Kurt's approved building application from Warringah Council and the long-term ramifications on Pittwater residents ...

Re: Where did you surf today ?

Did anyone notice the drop in water temperature over the last few days? surfed the farm this arvo latish and the water was cold! I saw a guy come in wearing a steamer and i was doing the eye roll thing till my feet touched the water. A north easterly swell drags the water up from the ocean floor. H...

Re: Can I bodyboard with one fin only

I will assume that the original post is not a smnmntll bait and will answer as follows: When I was at school me and a mate, both of us being short of money, shared a set of flippers, one each, for bodysurfing. They worked fine. It's even easier with bodyboarding. BTW, if you are short of funds, an o...

Re: Just general surfing stuff

I'm 65, getting to my feet is the big problem, after that its all ok. I did surprise myself on a few good waves at the racetrack the other day, actually jumped to my feet in one movement and no foot adjustment required... nearly fell off in surprise. I put it down to that surf fitness routine I've ...

Re: Surf beach suggestions for beginner - Sydney

He is having go at other forum members. Most of us live north of Sydney and I have never surfed at Cronulla, hence my non-recommendation which probably also is the case with the other northerners. However anyone else on this website who lives at or surfs at Cronulla should hang their heads in shame....

Re: Surf beach suggestions for beginner - Sydney

The north end of Bondi is generally the calmest with the flattest bottom. The south end can get messy (and had the shark attack). Although this website is fantastic, I suggest that you check out the surf cams on www.coastalwatch.com before you leave so as to know in advance whether it's worth your w...
