Re: Ask Carroll
from my experience that pretty much sums them up Nick. draw your own conclusions as to the terminology one can apply to that type of person/attitude..not exactly endearing to the general populace or even their respective peers or wider cultural group. On the other hand, we, the general populace, in...

Re: Ask Carroll
Actually, if it is a wave pool, Olympic surfing could add a higher fitness ingredient. 1/2 hour heats, for each surfer the 15 best scoring waves counted. Scoring could be done by computer, take out the Russian judge, a sensor on the back of the board. -Speed -number, angle and amplitide of turns -cr...

Re: Ask Carroll
Surely some of the other Olympic sport applicants are more deserving; like Bridge, Tug of War or Frisbie (I mean, Flying Disc).

Steve, on your point about the relevance of pro surfers surfing pro boards to the average surfer. The same point was made by this surf writer.

Re: Fiji Pro 2015
the commentary is vastly improved imo. Blakey/Williams are nailing it, absent Williams massive man crush on Kelly. I agree, I just would like them to try a current pro becoming a third person on the panel for the finals. Liven it up, and making the finals telecast a bit different, special. Strider ...

Re: Fiji Pro 2015
It would be good to have one of the eliminated surfers join the commentary for the finals. I don't know who would have the best commentary skills. Slater, of course, I also reckon Freddy P would be good.

Andy was 32 when he won his comeback Tahiti Pro. And let me tell you young fellow, there's a hell of a difference between 32 and 43.

Re: Fiji Pro 2015
Fair enough. With Owen's first 10, I gave big points for the extreme hook that preceded the second tube. I think, overall, the judges do a very good job. Just because I might give a different score, never means to me they are wrong. At some level, I compare my chances of achieving the same ride. I t...

I thought Owen's second 10 was a little generous. I guess that shows how little I know.

Re: Fiji Pro 2015
Kelly Slater, as Braithy said, he's 43 years old ffs. When he just missed the world title in 2013 due to a contentiously scored wave to Mick, I think that was the end of the Kelly's 'execute the termination directive' warrior head. Seems to look for shortcuts now while everybody else keeps getting b...

The 4 winners go straight thru to the quarters.Trev wrote:3 man heats. How many go through? Just one?
The 8 losing surfers go to 2 man heats in Round 5 to determine the other 4 surfers in the quarters.

For those that missed it, Sean Doherty's day 1 wrap was great reading (as usual). A fair bit about Dane Reynolds. Good to see Dane doing well. He just won his third round heat with a total of 18.34 against Adriano. http://www.coastalwatch.com/surfing/14449/everything-and-nothing-sean-doherty-on-day-...

Caster sugar has been a popular low cost option for wind surfers, they say it works well, though I make no recommendation as I have never done this, and I am sadly very basic on the handy scale. I reckon they are easier options, but with sugar "Tape around the area you want to regrip then using a fo...

A film about MP and Owl's road trip.
But no one would believe it.
Which reminds me of that photo of Owl Chapman at Maalaea. Classic.
