Re: Ebay Bargains thread
Last week a mate of mine bidded on a "bulk buy" of five boards through eBay. The ad wording betrayed a rubberneck (much like misplaced deck grip does) and the photos were terrible, but he thought he could see some potential. Without making a fuss he lobbed $300 down and won the auction. His hunch pa...

Re: Midlengths
It's spelt 'arse' over here Offy, which makes it barse and amounts to nonsense. Much like riding a light board in heavy waves.offshore1 wrote:You've got it bass ackwards Mr. Reef

Re: Midlengths
You shoulda got the Brewer then Cranked. Not too often you see a good condition RB for next to nix Like you I enjoy riding Tuflites in small, gutless waves. Reckon the added buoyancy works wonderfully in those conditions, however I always struggled in size or chop when a bit of weight helps the boar...

Re: Midlengths
Well that's why it's been sitting in the racks and only surfed once in the last twelve months. Anyone see the article on Swellnet or Coastalwatch about vintage board sales. Bagged out a Dick Brewer because it wS a Tuflite. Said people should be aware that the resale value is not there. Now I'm sure...

Re: Snowdonia Wavegarden
Yesterday I spoke about Wave Garden to a Welsh who travelled home recently, said the day he visited there were SUP's, skis, whitewater kayaks, and random flotsam dotted around the pool. Didn't seem to be much order to it. Also, the wind was blowing dogs off chains so the surface was far from what wa...

Cheers Fong, hope you're getting a few hollow ones wherever you are.
Best wave in the world? Maybe. Even after all these years and all these discoveries it's still the benchmark for perfection.

Re: Kirra 78-79 remembered
That's a really good read. I might hunt down the book. "Larry", a regular contributor to this site years ago wrote similar short stories covering, among other subjects, his days working at the Byron Bay meatworks in the 1960's. It's very interesting reading about those long-gone eras. "Larry" - oth...

thanks. the second pic down is the one. and yes, looking at the reports i've noticed that newcastle always cops more south swell than sydney. it should do, it's way more open to it. how embarrassing are the surf line forecasts. says its going to be 4ft then in brackets (waist to shoulder high). Surfline uses 'face feet' as their metric, so technically they're correct. They switched over around 10 years back, a cynic might say around the time XXL and other big wave conte...

ah ... 120 million fans has gotta be just a figure they throw around in board meetings with companies like samsung & fisher & pykel. there's more chance of me harnessing moombeams into my rectum and turning my underpants into a convection microwave, than there is 250 million surf fans in the world....

Re: snapper pro
Interesting talk RE viewer numbers and business model. Pumping the numbers has become sport for the big surf organisations and the reasons are obvious: they project a bigger image than reality and (hopefully) attract investors or govt funds. You can see how it works for Surfing Australia (SA). They ...

Re: Where did you surf today ?
What happened to your Northside foray Stu? Ended with the unexpected arrival of twins. That put the count at 3 boys under 2-years-old, and 5 of us in a 2 bedroom flat. Real estate being what it is on the N Beaches I just couldn't see us affording the space we needed. So we packed the wagon, headed ...

Re: Where did you surf today ?
As far as similarities go, there's not much to compare between Cronulla Point and Sandon Point. They'll both hold any size, and they're both righthanders, that's about all they've got in common. The differences can be traced back to the geology. As Barstardos - who used to post here often and was a ...

Re: Wooden Handboards
If you can't swim with a handplane then you've bought the wrong one. Personally I reckon handplanes, aside from raising your body and reducing friction, should serve the same purpose as flippers: to propel you through the water. A few deep strokes through the water as the wave approaches and there's...

Re: Which board do you hope to surf tomorrow?
I asked why do you continue to follow a theory, that is subjective, not objective? Maybe if enough people used their brains for once, we could you know, use logic and reality so that people could make an accurate judgement as to a waves correct size. Which scale for measuring wave height is objecti...
