some shortboard riders have difficulty with them because the fish has to be surfed off the front foot? Short answer YES - for wide tail keel style fish. Most guys who have only ever surfed refined thrusters will have to adjust somewhat - those that don't (can't?) quickly discover why some people ca...

if U want a colored board - go custom. There's no shortage of makers (right here in OZ, not Thailand or Upper Congo or wherever) who will do anything from fully sik mate homeboy graffiti to retro tints and pigments!

(Not to mention the shape will be suited to YOU)

i got a dain thomas quad fish .. amazing acceleration off a rail cause of all that fin area.. very quick rail to rail transitions, does drag in certain situations, and not quite as reliable/predictable as a thruster configuration and it does some funny things sometimes..but it's very easy to generat...

yes thanks longbum but i'm alluding that a lot of people seem to think these style boards are for crap surf

the mackie fish look great but my opinion is they would not be as quite as versatile as the banks version - totally different template and rocker setup

i got one of his mark I fish and it is a very good board, notwithstanding the usual drawbacks of the big keels in various situations... it actually does better in good waves than slop (i/ve surfed it up to nearly double overhead) i don't think u could go wrong getting a banks board

i want a board to go well and have plenty of experience going into the shape, for the given type of ride i'm after, and i'll ride just about anything - so i source the 'better' shapers (oops sorry designers) for whatever i'm after at that particular time be it a thruster, fish, gun, longboard et al ...

it's probably reasonable to expect big name 'off the racks' or production boards to be ghost 'shaped', but custom, IMO should mean 'custom', and the bloke receiving cold hard mostly tax free cash should at least have touched it with a piece of sandpaper??

maybe i'm being too idealistic ??

so can someone enlighten... i have no problem ordering a board which is roughed out by a machine then finished off by the 'man himself', with the dimensions I want and the 'shapers' interp of what I need, and for this I am more than happy to fork over the cash. And no I don't haggle when dealing dir...

board design has gotten that specialized and that sensitive that a concave designed for small weak surf will be almost uncontrollable in decent waves, and vice versa....if you're not a bloody good surfer then get an all round type unless u can afford a bunch of boards for varying size/power waves IM...
