Re: Just general surfing stuff

Yeah, unfortunately most Indonesians, including those on boats, can't swim.

Surfers lost in the Banyaks. Sounds bad.
Apparently found floating on their boards.
Maybe they just found a great new break!

Re: Where did you surf today ?

I was trying all sorts of fin setups on my pin tailed/wide nose 7', 7'6 and 8'6 Aloha fun boards (lol) , I was not satisfied with any of them (thruster, single, 2+1). As a last resort I tried a pair of keels... they did just exactly what I wanted then to do, that is go fast, pump and turn.

Re: Where did you surf today ?

Bronze whalers have a large first dorsal fin that originates above the inner margin of the pectoral fin, no interdorsal ridge, a precaudal pit. The species also has large pectoral fins, and a large upper caudal-fin lobe. I was surfing yesterday with the two guys who spotted it the day before and I k...

Pretty rare for a bronzie to cause any issues.
I agree. I wasn't implying that the line-up was empty because of the sighting, I just thought it was not wise to surf by myself where it was sighted. Someone arrived soon after my post and we went out unperturbed.

Re: Where did you surf today ?

Perfect conditions ATM but no takers. I'd usually just go out but a few mates spotted a bronze whaler a few days ago, they got a good look as it went underneath them.

Re: Just general surfing stuff

Looks like a few issues with it. It appears that the energy determination is based on the open ocean swell size, not the surf size estimated for each inshore location. E.g similar energy forecast for Ulus and more sheltered spots. It does vary eg currently Kuta beach 2176, Outside Corner 3062, Kara...

Re: Just general surfing stuff

The Chinese tour groups are great. They have common items of clothing so you can identify members of the group, and a couple of leaders with an identifying flag on a long stick that they wave around. Even family groups dress in the same colour and style, all obviously made by the same tailor. And of...

Re: Just general surfing stuff

They've already done that at Nusa Dua. It always looks pretty deserted and booring to me. Nothing as boring and dissfunctional than a bunch of high rise hotels. Might as well stay on the Gold Coast.

Re: Just general surfing stuff

Yes, not a pop at anyone in particular. It’s just so overrun and the infrastructure and “services” cannot support the tourism population. It’s pretty much a giant garbage dump. I think the whole government is corrupt at every level. They are paid a pittance and are expected to augment their income ...

Re: Just general surfing stuff

Which brings me to the cliffs at Uluwatu. The same clan has been in control of just about that entire strip of land from the Uluwatu temple to Single Fin, roughly 4k by 4k. Their village is still intact and it's where I've stayed for nearly forty years now. An American surfer has been leasing land f...
