Re: new short board for big...old...guy...

Tell me about it. The grail. Mctavish produces the goods if you can go the price or get a good deal. I've got a range of boards from 6'6" up and his mid lengths give me more confidence particularly on take offs than anything else. With most of the rest the take off has to be considered carefully if ...

Manly. Pretty ordinary but better than Bondi in a SE Wind.
Had to get a surf in over the long weekend.

Re: Ask Carroll

Dunno. I see a lot more young surfers at my local these days. 10 or so years ago there seemed to be a change back to stand up surfing from lid riding which has since gained momentum. Plenty of opportunities for young kids to go and surf gnarly waves all the old timers gave up years ago if they ever ...

Re: surfing tips and tricks.

Yes paddlingower is a good idea and I encourage all surfers to learn some martial arts to improve their agility.

Also helps if you are bigger than the snaker of course. Not necessarily that hard given the predilection for potential jockies to become hot surfers.

Re: surfing tips and tricks.

If someone snakes you grab their leg rope as they are taking off and hold it just long enough to put them out of sync with the wave then let it go.
Note: this may end in a blue if done too obviously.

Large image of a bowl of soup with some fins sticking out of it.

Although this might bring on a revenge attack if the shark had any fins left.

Re: surfing tips and tricks.

I never really thought there was much of a problem with sharks in Asia generally since they don't swim that well without any fins.

Classic grass cutting of shearers turf.
Bit of a major drop in.
Obvious practice for in the surf.
So that's the tip I guess.

Tama yesterday was looking good but geez trying to not get dropped in on was a major achievement. You notice that everyone in the water can actually surf.
Bit of a shock after Bondi

Re: surfing tips and tricks.

Bondi is full of super fit kooks who exercise and stretch on the beach for hours until they paddIe out. If your quick you can snare a good half dozen waves before they hit the water 3-) .

Re: Rate your autumn

Easter at Crescent was definitely the highlight of the year surf wise. Combed left beach break peaks with the hard south swell for the week with a solid last day at the point. Fairly good run of small waves per that at the Eastern Suburbs favourite secret spot. Pretty crap now and Bronte would be ab...

Yes. Plenty of close outs at the Nth End when the flags went down with a few good ones in between. A bit more crunchy down south.
