Re: Cocunut Spray; The Niugini Experience
We finally all arrived at the Crowne Plaza in Port Moresby probably at around 8pm. A quick shower and back down to dinner provided free of charge by Air Niugini and 2 softdrinks! The food was pretty damn good in fact. Like going to a hotel buffet at one of the up market hotels like Sharaton on the P...

Re: Quad / Thruster ride report - fin advice needed
Ok quad riders, need some advice. Gonna ride my wife's Simon Face Dancer as a quad for a bit of variety. I have some M5's and G3's. Would this set up work? I wouldn't think it would be much good. Unless you are less than 60kg plastic fins are shite (no drive) but even if they were foam core glass i...

Coconut Spray; The Niugini Experience
I just got back from a trip to PNG (11/02/2015). We had surf every day which was pretty good. The first 2 days were small and average around the islands, so for the next 2 days we did road trips down the main island of Kavieng and scored 3-4' glassy waves both a left and a right. Then the predicted ...

Gotta love the Saffies. I've met a few in my travels and formed enduring friendships with them. The Boers are funny as fuck with some of their perceived lack of finesse and manners. If you want to get rid of some door to door ijit get the Boer to answer the door! Great story MM, definitely think abo...

Re: Indo Straw Hat or something else?
Tried the straw hat for PNG, 'ken good in the rain. Like an umbrella. Didn't blow off in the speed boat trips to the breaks either. Bit of pain carrying it around though if you don't want to wear it. You need to tie it to your bag. Left it the surf camp.

Re: Indo Straw Hat or something else?
Just wondering what folks preferred and why for sun protection in the tropics. I don't really like wearing hats that much, they seem to make my head itch where the headband sits so I'm guessing the lighter they are the better, so it just kind of sits there. I'm guessing the straw is the lightest? H...

Re: FCS Quads - What are you using ?
So I'm wanting my quad to behave closer to a tri than a twin so to speak in that I'd still like some pivot in the pocket and I understand fin placement is crucial for this , but is the inside foiled fins or old standard flat inside going to affect this at all ? Anyone tried rusty FCS Quad set ? Fro...

New 7S Quattro quad swallow tail 6'3 x 19 3/4" x 2 1/2"
New 7S Quattro quad swallow tail surfboard 6'3 x 19 3/4 x 2 1/2. $350 with plastic fins (MR-TX/M5). Purchased new just after I had my hip resurfaced (July 2011, so it's old but unused) and was out of the water for 6 months. I also bought a couple of other boards and never rode this one when I got ba...

Re: Modern Planing Hulls
No I think what is meant is more curvy outlines, rocker, bottom contour and the fins. From what I can see they don't have a lot of rocker as well as a straighter plan shape.
What kind of fins have you guys been riding in these MPHs?

Yeah my first surf at Napalms I didn't bother with booties or any protection and ended up on the reef and paid the price. I also got dragged across the reef at Illusions and even cut my face - I bumped a coral head while star fishing over the reef after taking a mid sized wave and finding it followe...

Seriously though, good thread. I have some boards that are good for mush but bad for steep take-offs, very flat rockers and full noses are not a joy to paddle into steep hollow waves.
