Re: Ebay Bargains thread
All three of the boards that Ian Brown is riding in that vid are surftechs. He'll have better fins in than the stock plastic shite but nevertheless they're surftechs with all their idiosyncrasies. In my experience tuflite is fine for the smaller mccoys (sub 6'0) but not so great for the bigger ones ...

Re: General snow stuff
boo, I go to Les Menuires in the 3 Valleys. It's by far the cheapest in the 3 Valleys (Val Tho, Meribel and Courchevel being the other main ones) but has the same access to the 600km + piste network. I quite often go over New Year and have always had snow, without fail. The resort is on the ugly sid...

Re: Just general surfing stuff
Karlos has got one I think. My board (lost weekend warrior) is similar and sparked that social media spat a couple of years ago between Tomo and Biolos. I love it; not sure how close it is to the V4 though

Re: Hooded rashies
water's only just under 10 degrees so it's spot-dependent at the moment. yesterday morning, smallish, dry hair paddle, warm WSW wind I didn't bother. weds and thurs pre-first light, minus one with a cold NE wind I probably will.

Hi Steve, yeah managing to stay moderately moist. It's lightening up a bit in the mornings now so the early is back on the cards. Wednesday and Thursday should be ok in fact

Re: Hooded rashies
Oh yeah. Wearing a hood is pretty shit mind you. I do so during the winter and I find it messes with my peripheral vision a fair bit and the peak's a bit of a pain in the arse as well. Still, better than feeling like your head's gonna explode (or sizzle) I suppose

Re: Hooded rashies
Spearfishing shop would be your best bet MM. Most of the surfing ones will be either polypro with a neoprene hood or all neoprene so probably too warm

Re: Just general surfing stuff
Anyone surfed one of those Lost Puddle Jumpers? Looks like a fun small summer mush board for beachies. iggy, I've got the 6'0 lost weekend warrior. different board to the puddle jumper obviously but aimed at similar conditions and it's great fun. super fast, you can trim it through sections from th...

Re: Ebay Bargains thread
I must confess that I did once buy a Santa Monica surf case (secondhand, I hasten to add, but even so) with the intention of using it for a couple of boards with glass-ons having previously suffered the baggage handlers tender mercies. As loof notes, they basically take up your whole luggage allowan...

Re: Ebay Bargains thread
Pfft. A recreational surfer owning a quiver is nothing but a grotesque vanity; a repellent self-delusion not dissimilar to tossing yourself off in front of the mirror while sucking in your beer gut and flexing your man-tits. The 'need' for a quiver is simply a marketing conceit created by the surf i...

Re: Snowdonia Wavegarden
Yeah, wind wise they absolutely lucked it for the comp. I've never been there but I'm guessing it's pretty exposed and we do get a lot of wind. If you're feeling masochistic, there's a webcam of Surf Snowdonia on the magicseaweed website (yes, really) so you can see what it's like when the red bull ...

Re: Snowdonia Wavegarden
The interview with Mitch Crews on the Surfing Life website is quite amusing. To paraphrase, he basically says that the wave is piss weak and temporarily wrecks your surfing but the contest was fun and that north Wales is beautiful but a large proportion of the population are mongs. No great surprise...

Re: Ebay Bargains thread
I hate the look of them and don't like the whole 90% backfoot weighted principle behind it, with both feet being glued in the one spot. That's not how they surf. The standard 6'3 allround nugget I have (still, but haven't ridden for a few years), I just used to surf it like a normal shortboard, mov...
