In my experience tuflite is fine for the smaller mccoys (sub 6'0) but not so great for the bigger ones ...

Oh yeah. Wearing a hood is pretty shit mind you. I do so during the winter and I find it messes with my peripheral vision a fair bit and the peak's a bit of a pain in the arse as well. Still, better than feeling like your head's gonna explode (or sizzle) I suppose

Spearfishing shop would be your best bet MM. Most of the surfing ones will be either polypro with a neoprene hood or all neoprene so probably too warm
