Re: Pure Surfboards, what happened?
Richard from Pure Surfboards (South Creek Rd, Cromer) made a few board for me over the years. I moved to another area and when I visited last week, the place was gone?! A guy from a business next door said he closed down about 1yr ago?! Anybody knows what happened? Did he move to a new location? Al...

Re: Why not add catalyst after Q-cells?
But the Q-cell is definitively not the same white as the rest of the board, it looks like a grey patch from most angles. Never will match MM, they are literally two different things. If you want it too 'look' better you can give it a dusting of paint, but ultimately even that will look different as...

Re: Alternative materials testing results - backyard style
[ Saw these photos the other day Ric, not sure if this will work. That's the beasts… one's I saw appeared different, those images look simply like just carbon which I can guarantee the aren't. The ones I had my grubby hands on 'appeared' to have a super fine woven cloth LIKE that used in some of th...

In the throws of a new one, low tech by your standards. We'll see how she travels. Think you are right about mo...

p_a, have you ever seen a Coil Industries board? http://www.coilsurf.com/page11/page11.html
Bit of different tech in their boards, they don't give too much away though.

Re: cork for the backyarders
contact can be removed with thinners or acetone. the filler coat provides a lot of strength to your surfboard. Wouldn't throw the acetone around too freely. Go by the manufacturer's recommendation for clean-up. No strength in filler resin per se, if you don't believe me leave a very thin amount in ...

Re: The Real Surf Backyarderz ... who are you?
ric, i've been looking for some of that non woven cloth - any ideas where i may find some? only luck i've had so far is N-fusion cerex from the states. P-A, the material I used was simply a 'tissue' from FGI, like a super fine chopped strand. Think it is generally used in vac bagging as a top layer.

Re: The Real Surf Backyarderz ... who are you?
I am seriously considering adding white pigment to the resin to hide the carbon fibre rail tape on my latest board. It's just so hard to make it look nice unless you do the whole board in 6oz Carbon cloth. :-? Dug, just about any cloth will add SOME impact resistance. I once did a little te...

Re: Why not add catalyst after Q-cells?
Not sure where it says that order, MM, I never did. Do it however you like, and you certainly don't have to mix for that long. Just make sure it is MIXED well enough. Also, keep in mind resin in volume gets hotter, so if you have a deep hole you either have to build up in stages (multiple mixes) or ...

One of the original stitch originators and owners is building their (Bongs) European equivalent in France, from what I have heard they have ploughed on regardless of current woes.dUg wrote: and surfstitch?

- if it's a lam coat ... all of the above, but, remember resin sucks into the foam, so it may never bond properly Mate, you'd be surprised what happens… I once resurrected a board for someone who'd forgotten to add catalyst to a deck lamination, it still 'more or less', sets with time. Pulled off a...

Re: Sticky / Tacky Filler Coat ????
Yes, wingy, time is important with UV, let the wax rise, this time of the year the UV is brutal. On recollection, I had some sticky ones in the past.
Try giving it a sand, it's only sandpaper – not going to break the bank if you go through a bit more.
Thought you mailed Miss FF?

Re: Sticky / Tacky Filler Coat ????
Are you using UV for fillers? If so, don't, you are waisting good money and if you are it could well be the the filler is going off too fast meaning the wax doesn't have time to get to the surface. Could also be dud wax in styrene… but I doubt it. Make sure it is wax in styrene though and not just s...
