Then the missus and I had a baby and suddenly the business case for spending $730 on a "luxury" purchase went out the window. That and I have surfed something like twice in the last 5 months so getting to know a new board would be too much trouble at this stage. I hear you bro. Haven't had a new bo...

Almost a week late but just had to say this is some of the funniest stuff I've seen here for a while. Let's face it, talking 'bout bodily functions is a great leveller - we all do them. I seem to recall having a bit of a 'turtle-head' last week when reading the beginning of the thread - I think it g...

Hey congratulations! I've often wondered with all your surf pix and tales of boards bought how you could fit all that in if you were a parent, now I know  As a father of two little 'uns I reckon you can expect a lot less time in the water, and less $$$ for all those boards!, but hey, it's worth...

I was a bit surprised to find this out too. Apparently he did a fair bit of it back in the '80s

What happened to the egg?

Seems a few years ago the whole retro/alternative surf craft thing kicked off with eggs and fish both being seen in a favourable light. Now fish (in all their varied forms) seem to be the board of choice for those looking to experiment and/or go longer or shorter than their regular board. But what h...

Been off line for a few days - thanks to all for sharing your experiences on this. My summer hols have just fallen through (tax bill:cry:) so the plan for regular beach exposure has gone with it - but I'll work something out. Grazza, S39, can't wait til I'm in a posi to take a shot or 2 of my kids d...

When is day light savings? I love that shit! Nothing like a nice largo after work. :) I'm with you there Coops. Ask anyone with anklebiters and they'll probably have even more reason to bring it on - my two keep waking up anywhere from 4.30 onwards 'cause of the light (esp on weekends when I'm tryi...

Thanks for all the advice guys, makes for interesting reading. Taking it gradually is the way to go I think. I agree there's a lot to be said for letting your kids discover and experience it for themselves. If you push them into it they'll only rebel against you at some stage anyway. At the risk of ...

Good points sausage. Was thinking the surf mat is a good idea (started on one myself, but was pretty scared of the waves until about age 5 or 6).
As much as anything I'm stoked to be able to buy surf gear for my kids for Xmas rather than the usual crap they're given :D

I'm not a parent, but dude........ he is two. i think you should wait until he can swim and not risk scaring him off from the surf. your wife is right, and in due time he will want to go to the beach everyday. Yeah i know, I'm just keen to get him into it - even if it's just splashing around in the...

Introducing your kids to the surf

My eldest boy has recently turned two and, much to my wife's horror, I reckon it's time to think seriously about introducing him to the surf this summer. I've been taking him to swimming lessons for a few months, mostly teaching him to be accustomed to the water, so he can't swim or dog-paddle yet. ...

Might be a little hard to surf in a full-length Burkha too - maybe a full-length steamer with hood and veil would do the trick

Strange as it seems but it does paddle like an 8'6". I came from riding a 9'2" to a 7'00" powerglide and had no problems whatsoever in the transition. I had previously tried a fish and felt like a weirdo freak about to fall off just sitting on it but the powerlide has the stability of a much larger...

If yesterday's anything to go by - getting the sh!ts at my one chance for a surf in 2 weeks being robbed by crap conditions, then doing some pushups, situps and stretches followed by a run in the pouring rain, to make me feel like I've actually done something physical.
