4'+ and eight foot boards

I reckon its pretty funny that most shapers seem to find it impossible to create an eight foot board that can ride waves over 4 feet unless it a gun. Obviously the blanks aren't available. Of course it would be a nightmare to have people catching overhead waves on a board that big. G'day Beanpole, ...

Dt slider

I have a DT slider with a 2+1 set up which I enjoy surfing. Very different from a fish (traditional fish). It still has glide due to its flat rocker and width. No problem to carve big bottom turns and straight back up the face on the right wave. Gets sketchy harnessing the speed on 4'+. If you want ...

Fun boards

They don't call them fun boards for nothing. You'll find it easy to paddle and tough to damage. It will hold its resale value. Enjoy your purchase. In regard to the amount of money you paid. If you are happy with it who cares. In the long run divide the money you buy it for with how much left you ha...

Is it ok?

Shaped by a machine and glassed by "Hooflungdung" sanded by "Wunhunglow" and polished by "Wunlicku". Chinese No 11 dim sum special on menu. Make sure you get special spring rolls thrown in. "MR8" great mates rates (so Australian yet so deceptive). Taking the piss but couldn't resist. You get what yo...

Local shapers

I wasn't serious at all in my reply regarding the surf spots. Used to ride Manning's a lot. Then Outer Islands and AB's. Went OS for a decade and came back and the experimentation began in earnest. Look up Cord on their website. www.cordsurfboards.com and read the history part which you might find i...

Quiver choice

You may want to remove the names from your favourite surf spots. Storm riders well and truly let the cat out of the bag a long time ago. However only a local will recognise the dredging barrels in the last section of that movie. My 7' "Rooster" pin tail is shaped by Darrel "Rooster" Dell who used to...

Board advice

www.waterskatesurfboards.com Go to Grant's website and do some reading. Then give him a call because he will steer you in the right direction. On his site you'll see he claims the 7' Powerglide paddles like an 8'6". It worked for me. Read the testimonials because as you'll see there's beginners repo...

Do I know these waves.

Believe it or not I've never surfed the island.
Pretty sad but there you have it but I'm an Alex Hdld local. If you like Wurtulla you would have loved last winter. I spent more time at Pitta St because it was getting more of the swell.

Trippun fish

The trippun fish can be found on Murray Burton's pages of alternative designs. I have one of the first mad scientist twins. No quads because simply haven't had the chance to ride one yet. Mostly ride the 7'2" egg or DT slider. Where are you located? Since Old woman, M'ba and Wurtulla are in your fav...

New crew

It's a great place to further expand your surfing experience by being run over or hit by thrown boards. While on a wave you can have the privelege of meeting several strangers each ride. A friendly local who's known as "Barry Bluff" will always make sure you are never left feeling lonely on any of t...

Johno's take on attitude.

Great post by Johno on the cross section of longboard riders. I reckon I'm buying myself a 9'4" Bic. Took one for a paddle in sloppy 2-3 Alex Hdlds corner waves yesterday and was pleasantly suprised by the way it bulldozed its way across sections which would have normally spat a smaller/lighter boar...

66-67

Here's a pic of my Cord 7'6" shaped by Chops Lascelle (Noosa pioneer) which has a concave through the nose leading to a V bottom through the tail. 50/50 rails and the diamond tail. Glassed at Hayden's. Only one like it in Oz. McTavish, Rooster and the rest of the hot generation were all here during ...

Flat days

You'll find you don't need a 3" thick board to help you catch small waves. Especially at your weight. You'll find most boards 3" thick will have big blocky rails and you will probably find them difficult to turn. To give you an idea, I've been surfing for 27 years and I'm 6'1" and 87kgs. Took a 7S X...

One board doesn't make you bored.

Hey Andy,
Thing is you can only ride one at a time.
At least you won't be sitting out the back thinking, "geez, I wish I had my..... out here it would go so much better".

black material top woth black plastic bottom,

Thinking about upgrading to a new custom later this year......

Hey Andy,
Have you tried upgrading the bearings or the wheels for better glide and control?

Blue bomber dimensions

What are the dims on that fine looking craft? The board I'm eyeing off is 10' X 22-23" (have to check on this) X 3" and has a much more pronounce pintail but close to yours in the nose. Strangely enough its very similar in the colour as well. Still trying to decide whether to go for the 7'10" X 2171...
