So, UV resin for glassing surfboards...

So, my most recent board I shaped was glassed in UV resin. Two full-deck 4oz layers (whole deck, not just a foot patch) and one 4oz bottom later. That makes a full three laps of 4oz around the rails. The glassing process went to plan. Worked out all the bubbles in the laminate coat and made a good c...

Re: post your modern day sickness

They're called speed stripes Cutting edge technology coming out of underground expiermentation. An accidental flick of the wrist while holding the broom, left unnoticed, actually improved performance by 22%. They're now a mainstay of design. He chose to not name them, as the true name "broom stripes...

Re: Shortboard Hydrofoils

All good Capt, thanks for asking ! Hows your new life ? Ive seen a few pics of your shaping skills and you're doing a great job. Foils are always in and out of the water, the design is easy to change but the theory of how and why it works isn't easy to refine. But certainly the longitudinal arrange...

Re: Red Bull Cape Fear - Cape Solander Surfing Comp

What I thought was ridiculous was that every heat was won by a cape solander local, and at least one of the judges was also a cape solander local. Funnily enough they beat a bunch of out-of-towners who also happen to be professional surfers. A better spectacle would have been the locals judging, and...

Re: Roys bank balance

Congrats Roy! That was a beautiful play on the psychology of marketing. Nobody pays the actualy "cost" of something, they pay the "value" of something. That value is purely subjective to the individual. Therefore, technically, with the right elements you could have waited long enough for the right i...

Re: Twinzers!!

Here's a few pages of twinzer talk to meander through Cpt. http://forum.surfermag.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=2047887&page=1 A lot of very interesting discussion there. The theories and experiences people are writing about there parallel with what I'm feeling exactly. Faster than a...

Firewire Tomo Vanguard for Sale

Hello People! I have a second hand Firewire Tomo Vanguard for sale. Its 5'6" x 18 1/2" x 2 3/8" 28.8L in the white RapidFire construction. Thats the EPS/Epoxy with carbon rods along the rails. Got it second hand while experimenting with the modern simmons idea, but it was just not enough volume for ...

Re: Spirit of Akasha - Tribute to 40 years of MOTE

I'm not fussed if its fuelling the hipster movement. The more people that surf for reasons other than the sporting side the better I say. Surfing for superficial hipsterism is very questionable, but if its for the thrill and experience of it all, its getting closer I reckon.

Re: Spirit of Akasha - Tribute to 40 years of MOTE

well having surfed since the year MOTE was made I can't recall a time in surfing where there were so many "norms" as there are today. The time when pro surfing dominated all aspects of surf culture is well past now, and the "norm" at your local beach is just as likely to be old guys on SUP's and gi...

Re: Spirit of Akasha - Tribute to 40 years of MOTE

When Alby done MOTE , it was spontaneous , honest and a genuine reflection of what was still underground at the time......no one can replicate things like that , they just happen by their own momentum , and artistic energy. That I think, is the ironic thing in surfing right now. Very little is unde...

Re: that wetsuit discussion...

I'm a big fan of O'Niell wetsuits. Despite the recent bungle I had with the seams needing a replacement suit, its still the best wetsuit maker in my mind.

I'll try Adelio next though, they look great quality for the price and I like supporting the litte guy.

Re: that wetsuit discussion...

I asked before but I think it slipped by. Anyone tried an Adelio wetsuit? http://www.adelio.com.au/store/wetsuits They're a small outfit based on the central coast of Sydney. A friend has had good dealings with them. He has the 2mm shortarm and they look like great suits for their value. Liquid seam...
