Re: Quad / Thruster ride report - fin advice needed

I've been thinking too, I think one consideration is about fin area too. Its obvious how much more drive and projection you get out of bigger fins. Its easy to notice this when changing fin sizes. A quad will generally have about 30% more fin area than a thruster, which will reduce when the board is...

Re: Single Fins

Hmmmm... Just ordered a new board which will be a twinzer + 1. Bad timing to be exploring the singleys. I've enjoyed mid length mals with single fins and pulled in tails. Nice knife through butter feeling. I think I'd have to give the bonzer a try at some stage though. It just sounds much more like ...

Re: Single Fins

I'd love to put some time into one to get the feel everyone talks about, but I live in Sydney. It'll be surfed mostly at short point breaks and beaches, and will probably just give me the shi7s. I've I lived closer to some lined-up point waves that'd be different... A bonzer is high on the list if I...

Re: Single Fins

What is the "knack" to surfing a single fin shortboard? I've spent most of my time rising thrusters (beginning), quads and twins (last 5-6 years). I've never been able to get a single fin to "go" for me. Whats the style or secret? I gather you can't pump speed into it as easily as a thruster for exa...

I think someone looking out for you put in the request. Stops you wanting to buy too many surfboards :)

What do you mean by that CC? It's the new go to board for every new punter?
It is!

Sits left of centre on the performance fishy specturm but isn't quite a full fish. Mass pop-out production style. Its the same product all over again.

Re: Advice for a 3rd board

Get yourself a nice roundtail quad 6'2" ish, keep the fish for small waves, and get rid of your current 6'2".

A nice roundtail quad will see you in good 2ft waves right up to 6ft+. Just surf that 100% of the time while you figure it all out.

Re: Advice for a 3rd board

Its hard to comment without knowing what the foil and shape of the 6'2" looks like. I mean a 6'2" shortboard can be made to bite in powerful waves and will hold pressure through a full-rail bottom turn or carve. A 6'2" designed more with smaller waves in mind will have a lot of lift provided by thin...

Re: Yoga/Surf Fitness

If you want to get surf fit, start swimming lots of freestyle laps in the pool. The main thing that will get you tired is the constant paddling. If you get tired of paddling you're not even going to be able to get back out for another wave, let alone paddle fast enough to catch one. Second to that a...

Re: Tomo Surfboards

Thats the video I had in mind, hes surfing beatifully on that board. I'm not sure what model it is, it looks round nosed and round tailed with the characteristic planing hull thing (straight parallel rails for a good way).

Re: Tomo Surfboards

What I see when I see someone surfing a modern planing hull varient, is a lot more flow and speed carried through everything. It looks pretty much the same as high-perf surfing, but they just carry that much more flow and speed from turn to turn. Thats parallel with what I feel when I've surfed some...

Re: Tomo Surfboards

An interesting side observation on the Tomo Firewires is the number of them creasing or snapping just based on my own observation. I'm wondering why given they are short relative so wouldn't think this would be any more relevant than a normal board? Is it the concave depth?. Guy in our boardriders ...
