F**k man, you're telling me! Sometimes I think the whole Realsurf Forum is made up of people trying to waste time while on Deadline.

Of course, I could be projecting :)

They put Kirra in their list and it doesn't even fricken exist any more thanks to the Stupidbank. And oh yes what fun, go to North Narrabeen so JD or someone else can punch your dumb-arse yuppie headlights out. Let's think of some other famous crap surf spots the Herald could run! Watch for upcoming report at ASL's site and in the mag. It will shed little in the way of credit on anyone involved.

yeah, surf books are often a bit lame. usually totally uncritical/uninteresting bios or 2nd hand big wave stories. the slater bio is especially crap (nick - any insights?). I would reckon it was hamstrung by the first person narrative. Kelly's is a most interesting story but people's lives are rare...

I'm trying to think of non-fiction surfing stuff as well. Puberty Blues by Kathy Lette was a good read. Enjoyed Lochie Leanard series by Tim Winton, although aimed at the youth market. Anything by Winton is great. Try Bluebeak for a good salty yarn Hey Nick, have you ever met the guy, or considered...

My favourite two are both Septicisms I'm afraid. Tom Blake: The Uncommon Journey of a Pioneer Waterman, by Gary Lynch and Malcolm Gault-Williams. Blake was the prototypical American surfer, a lost boy from Wisconsin, born in 1902, who met Duke Kahanamoku and followed his track to California and even...

Yep, Surftag is pretty good stuff, definitely the most open of the club events. Steve Harrison does a great job pulling 'em together. And as a beach commentator at the Globe event, I must admit to a sneaky feeling of stoke as the grommet reps of my ancient foe QBC steadily took apart the Queensland ...

Heaps of different stuff Johnno. Clubs go in and out of phase, sometimes in bursts of a decade or two. Snapper's been on fire for the past five or six years, but in the '80s they were easybeats. Merewether dominated the early '90s .. but they also are missing from the Globe event. And Maroubra? Plus...
