Re: Mini Simmons

Joining in on this tread a bit late - but just had my first surf on a mini sim design. Met up with Cuttlefish for a pre work (shift worker..) surf on Wed at mid morning. Shoulder high, a few a bit bigger, offshore - nice banks. I was stoked to have a surf and share boards - but thought that his inte...

Re: review of Mccoy Astron Zot

The way I look at it, the 6'4 has probably as much or more foam in it than any "fish" off the shelf at even 6'8 or so, so really it's easy to paddle, floats over crap as good as anything else can float over crap, can still perform when requested because of the tail and nose shape but because it's t...

Re: review of Mccoy Astron Zot

Trev- a bit north of you @ sunrise. Used to live @ Dicky Beach so know you southern guys have lots of good little spots. In fact I miss A street, Kings on the northely , and most of all Curumindi area. The biccy handles that situation better as is will allow you to force it back up the face without ...

Re: review of Mccoy Astron Zot

The biscuit is all of that plus the ability to turn a tighter arc, ie. the single likes to turn off the rail line, the biscuit likes that too, but adds fin pivot to its repertoire. It will also do a bit of a hack if you have enough strength or weight to bury the rail. Chill - great rv of the MSF an...

Re: review of Mccoy Astron Zot

OG, if i had that ZOT i'd get some FCS plugs inserted so u can use it as a TRI-Fin.After that i'd get a thrusterfin made with a cut out in the base so it can be set where a thruster fin normally is I have has these thoughts - seen one done elsewhere. But decided i like the ZOT as it is - and will m...

Re: review of Mccoy Astron Zot

rst one was a pic I was playing with, 6'0 PotBelly left, Zot middle and 6'4 Stumpy right Kookster - when you look at the ZOT and the Potbelly side by side - they look very simular. I wonder if the real difference is mostly on the rail shape - with Geoff shaping the ZOTS rails specifically for the h...

Re: mctavish boards

love the look of the G2 And That G2 looks darn awsome.I think it might be better as a thruster instead of a 2+1 though IF I was in the market for a GUN - this would be very temping - as quite versitle - at 9ft - for those big cyclone days - get on real early - but may also be some use instead of a ...

Re: review of Mccoy Astron Zot

that fat round rail will suck you up the face of a solid barrel like 15 yr old chick suck starting a Harley. Big round rails have an amazing amount of 'stiction' in the face. To see how much, put the curved face of a spoon into a stream of water from a tap, its amazing how much suck into the flow t...

Re: review of Mccoy Astron Zot

] 've never ridden a modernised single fin, I've only ever ridden old 70's singles like McGrigors etc. How would you describe the ride and feel, Capt - if the ZOT is an example of a ''modernised single fin" I find its chalk and cheese from the old school single as far easier to change direction - an...

Re: review of Mccoy Astron Zot

ONE VERY BIG NEGATIVE FOR THE HIGH VOLUME SHORT BOARD... Despite being a rabid follower of the HVSB style - including spending every spare cent trying different shapes and experimenting with this style....I experianced the obvious downsize to these high volume - easy riding - lots of set wave taking...

Re: review of Mccoy Astron Zot

Will the Astron zot allow me to do a decent bottom turn/top turn combo, Astron zot owners? Hell yes - no problems the ZOT turns well off both top and bottom - It never catches and the only limitation is you need a bit of speed - but the ZOT like to fly.. I know the zap will do it. It will also allo...

Re: review of Mccoy Astron Zot

Plus the Alternator which rocks at 6'8" x 20.25" x 2.75" - it's a fantastic board but I start to struggle on that if the wave has no power. Plus I have a longboard which I only use when basically no-one else surfs because it's too small. If you struggle paddling this and you are after a replacement...

Re: review of Mccoy Astron Zot

Hey Buzzy - a fellow High volume short board addict :D - you have the same cravings as me ( Mccoy, Miller, El Fuego etc). I reckon that Morgan the moon and cuttle are pretty spot on - dont go too big with the ZOT. I say this as for me its not a real all rounder (ie the NUG) - more small and med wave...

Re: review of Mccoy Astron Zot

Yeah Beanpole - its true that getting a custom Mccoy is a little less involved and less two sided communication than with other custom =its like: - I send two long winded emails - pouring out my heart and creative ideas - loads of blood sweat and tears and intricate design details. Summaries of my e...

Re: review of Mccoy Astron Zot

KOOKSTER - curious what age / size you are? you seem to have made a move from NUGs to lazer zaps - was this about finding more performance? I am also a massive Mccoy fan (have had four and still own three); and think his boards are classic. Cheyne Horan was quoted saying "he is now making his master...

Re: review of Mccoy Astron Zot

I think its interesting that when there are loads of big guys, plus a ton of older surfers (say 40 plus) who may be more financial (dont have loads to spare - but no way was I able to buy a board every year in my 20's) - that there are only a couple of shapers that seem to have specialist design ski...

Re: ncfb3

Hi Mark following this with interest - it seems to the untrained eye that this FB design is moving towards a Quadfather shape with a different tail? Also how big do you think a FB style can get and still work (for guys 95-100KG); and how big can the quadfather get and stay true to purpose. Or would ...

Re: review of Mccoy Astron Zot

thanks for the feedback... I forgot to add that I was 43yrs old 6ft 95kg -average surfer - hence going the 6'8'' ZOT. Now I have surfed it for a while - plus surf @ least 3x weekly so OK fitness; I could easily go down to 6'2'' or even smaller , however when its a bit more solid I like the length to...
