They are not mucking about with the tagging. They are planning to put 3 tags in each shark.
A colour coded streamer tag (they are temporary, they get knocked off)
A GPS tag and
An acoustic tag, inserted in the belly flesh which can work for 10 years.

Some arguments against killing sharks could also apply to mosquito control programs. Maybe even killing bacteria. What's our right to do that?

yeah but are you happy about killing a big living creature, or like six or seven of them, so you can go for a surf in apparent safety, rather than wait a week till they've left the area? Nobody's friends are in any danger at all from a shark if they're not in the water. You can't bring that Japanes...

That sounds a good outcome. I doubt they will actually tag all 7, if any of them. Probably it is just a PR announcement aimed to quiet the public, like announcing a review. I'm just plain nosey about whether the same sharks will turn up again next year.

Nick makes a very good point. You can use hydroponic sensors, but the idea that there will be a close series of hydroponic sensors up the NSW coast with comprehensive inshore shark tagging is pretty unlikely.

If, as has been reported, there are the same 7 whites that are trolling up and down in the shallow waters of the far north coast, that is a different situation ethically to killing random sharks.
