Drones are fine if they pack a punch and can be controlled (and if the ethics committee can agree! )!

Re: Nth NSW sharks. Can they p!ss off already?
I checked most spots between Goldie and just north of Ballina on Sunday. Cabarita was crowded. A bit further south, 25 Surfers were sitting within 15m of each other on a very nice A-frame peak at a bar, there were multiple barrels, quite often someone dropped in. It looked a bit like Kirra at times....

Re: Jeffreys Bay Pro 2015
They don't feel pain mrmik. They don't have the receptors. Doesn't much matter what you do. And on a big shark the gill covers are at least half a metre back and you have to reach past the open jaws. Plus their skin is made of teeth. I had to google that (pain in sharks). You're absolutely right. I...

How about the finger up the arse? It reportedly seems to work well for rugby players and pitbull terriers!

Re: Jeffreys Bay Pro 2015
A question for those who sometimes have access to alive or recently deceased sharks: Is it at all feasible to target the gill slits as a weak point if oneself or another person is being taste tested by a GWS? I imagine it would be a really convincing argument if you could wiggle your hand into the g...

So much for poking them in the eye as a defence:
http://www.sharktrust.org/en/sightSome species without the nictitating membrane (such as the White Shark) are able to roll their eyes to face inwards, exposing the hardened sclerotic coat of the eyeball to protect them when attacking prey.

Since Bruce was abducted by aliens and they put that tag on him, he has never quite been the same....restless, moving from place to place but unable to find peace anywhere. He says he will swim to the end of the world to find out what did this to him.

The ones I meant were TOS, Burleigh, Currumbin Alley, Kirra, Greenmount, Snapper, Dbah, Cabarita, Byron Bay (3 at least), Broken Head, Lennox Head, Ballina. The other dozen shall remain unnamed....Biggun wrote:what's a 'world class surf spot'?

Re: Jeffreys Bay Pro 2015
You guys crack me up with your complete lack of attention to detail #*! yah you're totally right, in general with shark shield stuff i lack attention fullstop. if it came to the point where a shark shield was necessary, i'd move to somewhere warmer in a heartbeat and start over again ... or perish ...

Maybe not the story you're thinking about, but noteworthy to the discussion: http://www.brisbanetimes.com.au/queensland/star-of-courage-for-shark-attack-hero-20130324-2gokg.html This guy got the Star of courage for hanging on to the tail of a great white shark, then diving down to retrieve the stri...

Re: Jeffreys Bay Pro 2015
A guy called Peter Clarkson pro ab diver was killed off Perforated island S.A. it was unclear if his shark device was actually turned on. All sorts of stuff was unclear in that case. I don't think it should be used to argue for or against the effectiveness of the Shark Shield. http://www.courts.sa....

Re: Jeffreys Bay Pro 2015
The second coroners report mentioned above is also very interesting, but much too long for some. I mean the one about the research diver who got eaten while the Shark Shields were gathering dust in the boat. In a passage towards the end of the report, an expert outlines one possible scenario causing...

Re: Jeffreys Bay Pro 2015
Wasn't one of the divers who got taken in WA wearing a shark shield? Im not aware of that in WA but there was that diver killed while doing research in SA while wearing one. I think I found the one you are mentioning here: A 23 year old research diver named Jarrod David Stehbens, killed in SA on 24...
