it has little to do with distance, to be a local, you need to be accepted or be 'in' with the surf society at a beach.

it takes time and somtimes commitment, usualy you must surf a particular beach persistantly to become a local.

the chaser boys are classic.

some of there stunts are hilarious.

yes they are effective and have seen video's and herd countless stories of them working, but these cases are from spearo's and free divers. i would not see the point of using one while you are surfing unless you are heading to secluded sharky areas. check out some of these: http://www.extremespearfi...
