Re: Quad / Thruster ride report - fin advice needed

So all else equal, it seems more useful to think about acceleration (and deceleration) than top speed. And how you generate that acceleration A quad accelerates with little work and maintains top speed as it has: less drag + more high line hold. A thruster has more drive and acceleration from pumpin...

Re: post your modern day sickness

Finally creased and snapped that toothpick in the background, blessing in disguise as they say. Popped over to sideways and went for this Sideways 6'0 Bam Bam. Threw the stock trailing fins + the Kinetic Racing Parko model fins in (I'm such a sucker for pro gear aren't I, that's Fanning limited edit...

Re: winter fourteen

Well Braithy it's no groundswell from the Cook Straight, but Huey's brewing a working week of S swell for the East Coast, as of the last satellite pass on the 29th. Maybe the 16day charts will cook something up tonight...

Re: winter fourteen

Yes Braithy, point taken. That's why I'm asking here if anyone else has any noticed ECLs in any long range charts at all?

BTW, you only have to pay for the 16day surf forecast. The charts are free.

Re: surfing tips and tricks.

This site is a CARROLLory... :D that's a synonym for collusion right "A true small sucky semi closeout with no real angle or hint of a peak is almost unsurfable." - comforting reassurance I'm not a total tard, or 'sped'. What would you say about the idea in my head of being a gorilla on the board an...

Re: surfing tips and tricks.

Well I guess I'll just keep plugging away, deeper and deeper. Maybe for 15min at the start of a session, when I'm paddling at 100%

Re: surfing tips and tricks.

JSB: gotta be quick as a ninja in such closely spaced, double up, random peaks and close outs. Obviously, leaning forward while paddling before the wave is sub-optimal.

Steve: Point taken. What about doing it in prep for when you do get smoking overhead beachies and need critical take offs?

Unless Steve, you're responding to me asking if it's worthwhile, and your personal opinion is no...?

Cheers Beerfan, but sometimes I prefer that risk to crowded banks. And sometimes I just can't help myself. #*!

So what'll you be doing different next time you're in that situation? mentone mansions: I think I do a similar thing. I'm 75kg and riding a 9...

Re: surfing tips and tricks.

Do by lip launched do you mean going over the falls? Not sure exactly, more like this. And at 1:51 and 1:53. http://youtu.be/XfPpwCIpatQ?t=1m47s At those sizes, I know it's more of a problem of being too late/deep and lack of paddle speed. At 1-2/2.5ft, wondering if it's really worth the obsession ...

Re: surfing tips and tricks.

Didn't wanna get too technical at first, but yes I've tried various boards and I'm not trying to fit a fucken square peg into a round hole. I'm not sitting in the middle of the gutter on a long board. So let's step up the advice to intermediate level. I'm trying to up my conversion rate, not trying ...
