Re: Help me choose a board

Yes definitely more volume needed. You mentioned you rode a Webber 6' by 18 1/2'' by 2 3/16'', if you look at the volume numbers on the JS monsta site the board closest in size is 5' 10'' by 18 1/2'' by 2 3/16'' and has a volume of 24 litres. So we need to know how much more volume a 2'' longer boar...

Re: Grom surf coach - far nth NSW

If I was paying for coaching I would want the waves caught filmed and the coach supply a written constructive criticism of each wave caught.

Or film your son yourself and post up a vid and get Realsurf members to constructively criticise.

Re: Just general surfing stuff

Joschka,
Checkout the firewire site and find a board that looks closest to your shape.
For example there is the Firewire Dominator which has the same dimensions that you put up and the volume is 38.1 litres.

Re: DY Point tonight

If you aren't getting assistance from artificial light it is easier to night surf after midnight when the moon is able to illuminate more of the wave face, surfing just after moonrise the swell/wave face coming toward you is just a dark shape and it is difficult to tell when the wave is going to bre...

Re: Midlengths

Those fins on Webbers board look interesting. Never tried fins with that much flex. Reckon my next project will be to make a set out of some fibreglass off cuts I scored from the glassing factory at Byron. The side fins look to be 13 layers of glass thick, probably 4oz, look closely at how it has be...

Re: Balsa surfboards in New Guinea

You can also donate old surfboards to a charity that then ships them to New Guinea.

Re: Kevin Platt Surfboards

Rachel. If you are after any footage of your father surfing, there is a surf movie called 'Ride a white horse' where you see him ride one wave at Honolua Bay. One of the old mags I've got says he went to Hawaii in 63/64. The movie was made by Bob Evans and it was a kind of Australian version of The ...

Re: Kevin Platt Surfboards

Rachel. Glad to help. Here are a few suggestions as to people who may be able to give you more info about your father. Carl Tanner, surfboard collector, has one of your fathers boards on display at the 'Surf World Gold Coast' surfing museum at Currumbin. The editors of the surf magazines from the la...

Another add photo. When Kevin Platt was working for Danny Keyo surfboards. Found this pic in an Australian surf mag called Surf International, the editor was John Witzig. http://i602.photobucket.com/albums/tt110/kenipini45/kp%20001_zps0fg8ic77.jpg http://i602.photobucket.com/albums/tt110/kenipini45/...

Re: Kevin Platt Surfboards

Did a thorough search through all my old surf mags and found a few more adds, pictures and stories. This add is from Surfing World vol 9 no 3 june/july 1967 cost of magazine 45c. Note the different name and address, this earlier shop was situated next door to the later shop. http://i602.photobucket....
