Re: Concaves
Mark, thanks for the assessment. There are 2 beaches I mainly surf, Garie and Cronulla. Garie is usually a foot or two bigger than Cronulla and generally breaks faster and more powerfully than Cronulla, since Cronulla's beaches are contained in a bay with a shallower bottom. The waves at Garie come ...

Concaves
I've had a couple of boards with single to double concaves and they perform very well under my feet, one is a quad and one is a thruster (Webber Afterburner). I've been eyeing off the JS Industries Kingpin which is a single to double to V which looks fast and very manoeuverable but I saw this Sam Eg...

Re: Malaysia in January
I think way up north west there is a small strip of coastline that faces into the Indian Ocean that isn't blocked by Sumatra...you'll probably get some waves up there. I recall seeing a picture or 2 of Phil MacDonald surfing some decent looking waves up there once. I've only ever been to KL for a co...

Re: Mal Riders
Well, if there are a pair of you, it's very simple: both of you drop in and the inside one straightens out while the outside one gets the wave! Then repeat and swap places. You could do this until he paddles away or maybe if he is a regular at the break suggest taking turns, his choice. But after a ...

Re: people who only surf in summer
Sadly, I must admit I surf more in summer...just because there are more daylight hours. Wish daylight savings didn't exist I could be in the water at 4.30am and have 2 hours before work every day.

Re: First quad feedback
Yeh Slowy that V/double in the back end would help for sure, esp if the spine is a little pronounced. It kinda gives you a sense for the centre of the board. Adding a round tail can help with the whole pivot thing too, so if you want to experiement and try something new (if you havn't already) I wo...

Re: First quad feedback
I just tried a set of FCS Rusty R-2 quad fins and my board flies. Good drive and great release off the top and in cut backs. Some slide when you want it and regains hold when you want it to. My first quad was a Stretch F4 6'5" which went all right, nice and fast then I got a 6'1" in the same board a...

Re: people who only surf in summer
I've given up surfing on the weekends in Sydney for the same reason. Fortunately I have a flexible job, and it'll be even more so come next year. If i go to the beach on the weekend, I walk, and make sandcastles with my kids. Far, far more enjoyable than surfing at a crowded beachbreak where half t...

Been away getting some waves
It's been a while since I've been on here. I've been mostly mountain biking and even racing (just to prove to myself I'm there to make others look good) anyway not much point hanging out on a surfing forum if you're not surfing. Well, I've been surfing again and it seems I timed this trip up to the ...

Re: Swinger review
Why is this thing called a swinger and not a stinger like the original Aipa design? The wings are further up in the plan shape than they used to be (used to be about 3/4 length) looks like between 5/8 to 9/16's of the length from the nose.

Re: for those over 35
I guess it could be worse. I mean I could be two thirds of the way through my life and spending half my working day writing a 500 word post on a surfing forum which no one will read. But anyway will I be seeing you in indo throughout june and july enjoying the drugs and drinking you mentioned? Whic...

Re: for those over 35
... Yeah guys I'm feeling the same way. I'm approaching 20 in under two months and I'm starting to notice that my body isn't what it used to be. On the cold mornings my knees feel stiffer than they did in the good ol' days. I'm also straying to alternative craft which make it easier to surf because...

Re: for those over 35
Yep it certainly improves enthusiasm and performance but unless you want children again, keep letting them go! Because more children = less surfing time.Buff_Brad wrote:I'm nearly 46 , still ride a shortboard and find that clubbing helps me keep fit and young. Chasing girls half my age , ...

Re: for those over 35
I've just turned 50, well, back in October but at this age it always seems you've only just turned something because 12 months doesn't seem like a very long time anyway. I'll have just turned 50 and my 51st will here already! I still ride shortboards and have surfed since I was about 10 I suppose if...

Re: The Pop-up
Try surfing a tuflite, if you don't get up quick you will just fall off on take off. The extra buoyancy and speed are quite noticeable at takeoff and the thing will get away from you on take off so they force you to get up quicker. So when you have done the exercises and so forth practice on one in ...

Re: FCS Quads - What are you using ?
I bought my first quad about 12 months ago and after extensive research and experimentation I'm back riding a thruster. When I bought that quad I don't know how but I think there was a gang of surfboard manufacturing spooks following me everywhere and lacing my food or drinks with acid because I thi...

Frankly, if a tourist from any country comes here and is charged and convicted for asssualt I'd expect that they are not again let into this country. It's that simple isn't it, you make your bed you lay in it. Yes and I'd expect KA will have trouble getting back in the US from now on, they banned B...
