Re: RS BBQ Sydney Dec (exact date tbc)

i was thinking more a beach bbq and surfing gig. start morning thru late-arvo, then out on the town for the tragics and stragglers later-on-skees.

maybe start at cronulla for a surf and bbq, then finish up at lakemba for a good feed later on

Re: Where did you surf today ?

Maroubra. Just south of the stormy. Clean and peaky, but a bit weak and stifled. Took the 6'2 webber slx epoxy HPS out. Bit hard to scratch into waves on some. But managed to get in some cracking backhand belts and forehand cutties that I felt happy with. Feels a bit "squirrelly" and reactive but ea...

Sounds more like 'positioning' dude.

Excellent choice petulance. A stubbie 1 + 2. Time to start getting a feeling for how to "map" a wave out. Being a single fin based design, it will force you to do just that.

Re: new short board for big...old...guy...

Petulance. Read this. It's a pretty good insight and summary in what the feel of a single is. http://www.surfermag.com/blogs/design-forum/machado-single-fin/ For the past few months I've had my old single fin sitting in the back of the wagon as a second option. And depending on how the waves are bre...

Re: new short board for big...old...guy...

Depending on how it's breaking. If it's walled up and clean it'll be fun. But if it's breaking random and shifty it'll challenge you, Big Time. But like any board, there's a lot more to take into total consideration than "how many fins it has". That board on gummie would be loose, adaptable, and use...

Re: Ask Carroll

I probably wouldnt bother with riding them in beachbreak type waves of any kind. They feel very much suited to reef type power where their amazing lift and ground covering capacity can be used to full advantage. thanks.. you've quelled my impulse to buy one.. for now, it'd be superfluous. maybe if ...

Re: Ask Carroll

hi nick. question about the maurice cole pro-tow. have been eyeing these off for a good while (years) and i've read your reviews, watched the footage, heard steve and natho give reviews and commentary on them quite a bit. they simply look and sound incredible. fast, strong solid holding boards, that...

this thing looks insane.. http://mandalacustomshapes.com/boards/seraph-pintail-tph/ The timeless mid-length heat-seeking missile. Full displacementia, tri-plane hull, vee out the back door. Optional parabolic double concave can be added to the vee panel to transmute liquid light into useable energy ...

Re: new short board for big...old...guy...

Yup, got to work on "wave awareness". The board is definitely a keeper. And to think that I was *this* close to listing it on GumTree to get a Dumpster Diver equivalent. Around that time I popped into a nearby surf shop and one of the staff looked at me and said "for you, you shouldn't get on anyth...

Re: new short board for big...old...guy...

Keep the board you have. It's gonna be your old faithful. But if you "do" want more progressive and different board, then still retain the volume and length to being almost the same, but get a board that's more "performance centric". My biggest performance tip would be to honestly stick with what yo...

Re: new short board for big...old...guy...

For most Sydney beachies at 4ft and under, a board that's a good paddler with good "stand-there-speed" and the ability to adapt instantly to a series of abrupt wave changes is the ticket as a good allrounder. Just look at the multitude of boards out there today designed for exactly that purpose. "Re...

Re: new short board for big...old...guy...

Petulance. Why are you wanting to go shorter or compromise on the dimensions that are already working for you ? Like, what's your goal for this next board of yours. What's the motivation? With that important piece of information I could probably give you some pointers. But if you're just wanting a d...
