Re: why go so short?

Only 83 kg of pen pushing goodness here mate. And prob 6'0 is as short as I'd care to go on a board before detriment outweighs benefit. Saw some goose riding what looked to be a 5'2 this morning. Pure comedy. This stand up booger nonsense is on par with how retarded boards were early to mid 90's. re...

Correct me.

They do not have to be THAT short to work as planning hulls though?

Re: why go so short?

this morning was another good example of seeing droves of shitty surfing on way-too-short boards. getting in too late, too flat, stop-start surfing, and not being able to retain a proper line throughout the entire length of the wave. the only ones retaining speed and momentum and a decent line throu...

Re: why go so short?

all those way stumpy way flat boards simply don't do what they say on the tin anywhere near as good as they claim to. volume counts in small waves. if you can't generate speed thru compression rail-to-rail with what the wave is providing, then you need float speed with what the board's providing. si...

Re: why go so short?

look 8, i'm sure it'd probably go ok on certain waves. and i'm sure u have fun on it. but on the whole, i'm not convinced that those dumpy little models are going to be any more suited to small/tiny waves than just keeping to a reasonable length and adding the extra volume (foil/thickness throughout...

Re: why go so short?

2 to 3 inches shorter I do get . But this extreme reduction of length I don't get . Every shaper seems to be making a mole cricket model or some such . But by and large they look shit and surf shit . And could only perform in such small conditions , if at all well . Going a bit shorter works well si...

Re: why go so short?

You don't see any of the really ridiculously short, wide, flat boards going rail to rail or vertical in the pocket unless a pro is riding them. They're all out on the wave face going past the wave's energy, which is why you see such shit surfing on them. Exactly. 90% of them are basically surfing b...

Re: why go so short?

Fair play. I can appreciate why it could be ok to go a touch shorter , but lopping 8 inches to a foot off seems questionable if not pointless . In knee to chest high conditions or any wave that lacks punch , floatation speed gained thru increased volume alone should be enough to compensate . Also, w...

why go so short?

why go so short? is it really that necessary or beneficial? be that in tiny or mid ranged waves. i'm not convinced about the 'new thing' of boards trending towards being shorter (i.e a 5'9 that's basically a 6'4 cut down but has the same volume etc) why not just surf a longer board? it has more driv...

Re: How is wave height measured in Australia?

all surf reports are based off the "Iggy Scale"
then there's the "TrevG Scale" which says that if it's head height it's a 6 foot wave.
but that's just lame

Re: Where's Dinosaur?

Guys, Dino WAS banned. He (or someone purporting to be him) re-applied some time later and Don asked me if I agreed he could come back. I said of course he could ('twasn't me who banned him, although in all fairness marcus probably only beat me to the punch by a day or two). However I wouldn't have...

message a guy on here called 'bumfluff'. he'll help you out. he lives in ipswich but regularly travels to the sunny and gold coast depending on the wind direction, but most dependent on whether or not he's got 'tropical wax' or 'warm water wax' left. no need for any 'thank you dinners' either. just ...

Re: Where did you surf today ?

Anyone know whats up with the Maroochydore and Noosa wind live wind direction on Swellnet? It's been switching to North with 0 wind speed every now and then for about half an hour at a time. It got me the first time, I was headed to Wurts, then she switched north so turned the car around and headed...
