Re: Instant Coffee

Even if you aren't drinking from the finest doulton you should put the milk in first, because otherwise the first couple of mls gets boiled by the hot liquid and tastes like crap. Dino, with regards the top of the moka... I thought it was all snobby BS of the highest order, but I experimented with l...

Re: Debate over shark killer rages

Braithy, if you're spooked now, maybe don't read this... Green Pt is one of the places I've been followed by something very big and chosen to get out of the water. From the size and shape, it was probably a white, but it is very hard to be certain. From talking to some fishos round at the Yamb...

Re: Debate over shark killer rages

You know what is totally fcuken pathetic about this whole argument. The utter lack of moral perspective. That people would put their little surfing fun ahead of the life of a massive, incredible animal like a tiger or great white shark. I gather this is a broader social comment, rather than specifi...

Re: Debate over shark killer rages

Summarising the report, and answering some of the posts while I was reading it... Steve, and Fluffy: It appears that Great White numbers inshore have increased slightly in NSW over the last 5 years, if you use catches in the Shark Meshing Programs as a proxy. Conversely, it seems that Qld catches ar...

Re: Debate over shark killer rages

Fluffy, it's not easy to estimate shark numbers. There are a number of potential sources of data: Fishing catch reports (may reflect effort rather than numbers, and rec fishers aren't normally included) Trawler bycatch (tends to only catch small sharks, as big ones get out of the way) Longline bycat...

Re: Debate over shark killer rages

The bloke you're talking about who got killed wasnt using the Shark Sheild equipment properly. And unless this footage is fake, the sharks definately respond negatively to the "tingling on the shnozz" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X8h2f_c2QUw Geez, that was conclusive. That shark wasn't attacking....

Re: Debate over shark killer rages

that was a solid GW you got; was it in Oz or elsewhere? I know Fong's reaction will make me regret saying this, but it was in Qld. You can paint your board however you like, it won't do much. Sharks that eat big prey, i.e. tigers and whites mainly, tend to strike from below as they aren't as agile ...

Re: Debate over shark killer rages

Sounds like the ultimate job you have there, Kaboo. What exactly is your job description? that was about 7 jobs ago... I worked in a shark ecology lab, specialising in sensory ecology (big sharks and gamefish) and looking at what they ate (small sharks and rays). You haven't really done a risk asse...

Re: Debate over shark killer rages

all bombora's points are good Juvenile/"teenager" GW attacks are regarded as "mistakes" by sharks learning to switch from purely fish-based prey to marine mammals. Big mature GWs are a different kettle of fish so to speak....be thankful in Sydney at least we have very very few seals. the 4.6m white ...

Re: Debate over shark killer rages

there is both the ability and resources too catch and prove it's the killer shark via dna testing it can be caught and killed selectivly  p.s u make my point regarding hawks nest....it's the rogues we need get rid off, most are completely uninterested in humans or dino absolute bollocks, from...

Re: Debate over shark killer rages

feck, I just wrote a long reply and it got lost! :x Okay, here's the summary. It's a waste of time catching the shark, even assuming you could. They are highly mobile, and tend to cruise at around 3kms per hour, so it's most likely not even in the same area. Assuming it is, it's still pointless. GWs...

Re: Tufflite boards

Were you referring to the stock Webber tuflite, being to lightly glassed? no, the poly ones. don't think there's much variability in tuflite glassing? a bit got cut off and i couldn't be bothered retyping it, what i meant to say was that i wouldn't get a webber poly, but i rode a 6'2" afterburner a...

Re: Tufflite boards

why are you looking at new boards and customs if you're a uni student? :) in short flat boards, tufflite goes pretty well. I wouldn't ride a tufflite any longer than 6 foot, and i'm 6 foot and 72kgs i haven't seen many tuflites where the bottom contours are the same as the PU equivalent, they tend t...

Re: Grip

i normally don't like it, i've got a dodgy back foot so if i need to move it the grip seems to result in me re-injuring it. most boards i've got second hand i've ripped off the grip. it generally hasn't made much difference to the surfing. on one board it went from a dog, to a really fun board, beca...
