Re: Base gone under
There were a few Morn Pen crew who went to G land with Mick Pierce years back. Heaps of boards broken, but none of Mick's. Not heavy boards either. 5 yrs easy, Hatchy. Was/is making boards from his house? Dundas St Rye between shops and Rye car park. Could do alot worse. One of the best tube riders ...

Re: Take Away dim-SIM
Thanks guys. Whatever will be, will be. However, I can take advantage of my employers as far as couriering back to Qld - and I'm a good board packer. Need to be so as to combat all couriers who can't read the word Fragile. Must be a prerequisite for getting such a job. Anyone remember the start of P...

Re: Base gone under
Yeah, Rick. Mainly release off the top. Fiddled with fins and got it mostly right. Also occasionally wanted to 'track' if I got the front foot placement wrong on take off. Wasn't twinny kind of tracking. More like if I wanted to pull in on take off, the line of the board would be different to the li...

Re: Base gone under
Can't speak for all, but where I am there are no local shapers - you've got to head toward Torquay. I arrived here from the Mornington Peninsula in 1995. My long-term shaper there is still going I think, but I kinda lost touch. At Torquay, there's plenty of shops selling "models" made by the big lab...

Re: Take Away dim-SIM
Thanks Boo, that'd be unreal, but I do recognise the might . I'm a couple hours west of Torquay, but would jump at the chance. Hatchman's also showed strong interest, but he's on the Mornington Peninsula. It's my old surfing territory and I still have links there so I reckon we could work something ...

Re: Base gone under
For the record, not all Base boards are glassed light. You can request a stronger glass job. I've had 2 from them. 1. A bourton quad 4x4x4 with a diagonal glass job. Said to be stronger than parallel glassing. Snapped it in Samoa, but might have snapped any board?? 2. A DHD with 4x4x6. A bit heavier...

Re: Base gone under
Buy a T shirt, leggie, wax, anything from him unless he's a strict back-yarder. We should all do that as there's probably more profit in the miscellaneous than the surfboard for most. Having said that, I did nominate Josh Dowling as a good guy a while back because he did such a great deal (close to ...

For the interested, Maurice Cole talks about Base.

I also got an email recently from Murray Bourton saying he's still in the board making business. Good luck to them all. Who knows what sort of shit might go down?

Re: News flash- fong killed by worlds biggest orgasm
Sad fact for me is I'm not very far behind them. Depending which version of the boomer years applies, I might even be one of 'em. 1963 and the body has some issues. Proof of it is in the progressive volume increases in my boards over recent years. Lucky for me I'm in a relatively uncrowded area and ...

Re: News flash- fong killed by worlds biggest orgasm
You long for the good old days when surfers were counter-culture trash. Less crowded and way more fun - in and out of the water.
Not sure about pain and misery.
Not sure about turning someone into a vegetable either.
Maybe I'm soft.

Re: Malaria
I've been using Larium (although pretty sure that's the brand name and not the actual drug) - probably same as malarone. Has ruined some people's trips with mind hurting side-effects, but I've been fine with it. Doxycycline and sun don't mix so as Otway says, do the best you can. Perhaps do an at ho...

Re: 3 Strikes - Your Out!... The Board With Satan's Touch
Wasn't a possessed board and I still have it as a back up, but it was a shitty start. First surf on it was a crappy 4 ft onshore beachy. Went out because I had a mate and his 16 yo son with 2 of his mates staying with me. Being 16 and keen as fcuk, the little bastards talked me into it. Prick of a p...

Bummer. With the summer shitty season fast approaching, hope you get back in the water soon. Miss those peninsular banks big time. No doubt too big for 'em yesterday, but on today.

I'd consider a trip back to the old stomping grounds of the MP to pick it up. Sure you would've had some great waves these past couple of days.
