Re: rotator cuff injuries

If its still troubling you lots, try and get a MRI done - its the only way you'll know what's really happened. I've had 2 shoulder injuries in the last year, and both started with ultrasound tests that pointed to something it wasn't - the mRI showed other things was was closer to the cause. Physio (...

Anyone ridden an Aloha bean and a firewire Dominator?

Looking for a step down from my 7' mctavish bobsled. I'm beginner/intermediate level. I was heading for a dominator but a couple of people have suggested the bean, but I know b*gger all about this board. Anyone ridden both and can compare them?

Re: correct paddling technique?

Just something I want to add to this, and this is just personal experience so take with plenty of salt - I've been suffering from impingement/bursitis in the shoulder and after (mainly trial and err) I realized that I was bring my elbow up high too much on the way back to the catch - this compresses...

Re: Question for 40 somethings..

Sorry mate, I didn't mean it to be directed towards you. I was hoping to offer some optimism for everyone who is in that position, that there is a lot you can do to make your body stronger and fitter to help with all of these things. It is true, as you age you don't recover like a 20yo anymore, but...

Re: Question for 40 somethings..

Thought I better pop back on this thread. Been some good interesting points. Cpt - I feel the last post was directed at me somewhat and I think you are totally right. I seem to have got into a 'mess' at the moment where I cannot escape my current condition. I prey that one day my shoulder gets bette...

Re: sharks holidaying in NSW

Are there less about in the winter then (sharks that is)? Typically yes. This report details it up to 2004 . thanks for the link - interesting - though I didn't see anything about summer/winter times. They should make that file available to all, so you can do some SQL/geek like queries and figure o...

Re: sharks holidaying in NSW

as a pom in Oz , are there always this many reports in the summer in NSW? (just because everyone in the water). Is this the usual yearly summer media frenzy or are there more than normal? just wondering. Pretty much, late December through to the end of march usually, plenty of them close to shore a...

Re: shoulder or rotator cuff problem solutions

go see another physio. Get an MRI done - its on the only way you will really know what the issue is. There are times to rest - especially if you've torn a rotator cuff tendon, and there are times to build it up - however the shoulder is complicated joint and the slowest to heal in the body (not much...

Re: Paradise Lost for Aussie Surfboard Makers Amid China Imp

You cannot fight this. This has happened/happening in all industries (esp in Europe 10 /20 years ago). The currency is strong, living is expensive, people need a decent wage to get by here in Oz. It just global capitalism. There will always be a (small) space for hand made boards - but get used to i...

Re: Question for 40 somethings..

The kind of mass you need for surfing is not found in a gym doing weights (for all the reasons outlined above) and honestly, if you're 40 your body is pretty comfortable in the shape it's in. It'd take some serious effort to gain good muscle. Here's a good combo strength/balance routine... try doin...

Re: Question for 40 somethings..

I was just thinking Pilates would be a good thing to start up. I spend my day at a desk unfortunately so defo need to work on that flexibility and core strength.

I was going to start hitting the weights as I'm a puny git and really need some muscle mass - but you think that's a bad idea?

Question for 40 somethings..

Hi all, I'm now turning 40 and over the last year I've had a few injuries that are/have taken a long time to heal (never really had this problem before this year). I've also noticed that I can't to an activity everyday otherwise I tend to pull or strain a tendon/muscle. Just wondering whether its ju...
