Re: Paradise Lost for Aussie Surfboard Makers Amid China Imp
Throughout my teen/twenties I was a whore to the latest / greatest vanilla, pro-endorsed and fashionably branded stock board... I'm now more discerning... formed a friendship with local shaper, who knows how and where I surf ... nothing beats a local custom board, immersed in the whole filthy proces...

Re: Christmas holidays at the beach - in 50 years
The concepts of 'Christmas', 'Holidays' and 'the family unit' will all be redundant. Replaced by World Govt. endorsed, methamphetamine fueled vapid consumerism, obscene jingoistic faux goodwill and televised 20/20 big bash death-matches between sub-humanoid Asiatic proto-androids and genetically inb...

Re: BAD people in the Industry
there was a certain infamous Sydney-based surf magazine/newspaper publisher whom ticked all the boxes and more! and ruined a vulnerable generation using his influence evangelising drug-fueled messages. How many kids were derailed from supping from his "Bible" ? Wasn't he the same editor that both P...

Re: Stick It Wax - where has it gone??
... whilst up the coast, I purchased a new wax called, wait for it... FACEKOOK, just for the novelty value.
At $3.95 it's actually is really good stuff. Haven't seen it in Sydney. Anyone know where I can get it?

Re: Who still rides a fish?
YES! love em!!! ... usually ride the traditional Lis (styled) DVS 5'10 keel fish during winter. I find they work best in clean conditions with power and curve. I generally ride an MR '84 twin through summer windswell slop – the combination of volume, pivot, looseness and drive from this design seems...

Re: 2+1 Set Up's - NPJr
Hi mate, i have a coupla NPjs... incredible boards!!! I've messed about with widow set-ups for my 6'6" rounded pin-tail 'step-up', and found this combo works best for me (5'11" @ 85 kegs): True Ames 7" Bonzer with FCS TC aqua line (trailers from the quad) as side bites. The TC's have a wide base and...

...had a similar experience to 'batoes' That south swell was running-up a beach 'round 'here (north coast) resembling an uncrowded point break, so I decided to ride my 5'6"MS on Saturday... see how it'd handle 3+? A: insane!!! Admittedly, it did feel kinda weird paddling-out: but the high-line speed...

Re: Twin fins as go-to boards
Prior to escaping Sydney, I rode a 6'2" round-nosed 'fish'. Forward wide-point, flat-to-panel Vee, hard edged single-flyer swallow with 'modern' (neutral) rails shaped by Mike Phillakis. A great all-rounder for Sydney beach-breaks up to 3 feet (translation: 87%). They take time to get your timing wi...

Re: Surfing Sydney Airport, early 1960s.
My deceased grandfather used to tell yarns of walking waaaaaaaaaaaay out into the middle of Botany Bay as a kid, to fish off the sandbar at low tide – pre: dredge / reclamation /breakwall construction for the OS Container Terminal. He also said the waves would "break for miles" into the bay to Brigh...

Re: crowdy head and sharks etc?
... with the mullet coming-on, combined with the rain and large tidal changes; there's been quite a few sightings up here. Crowdy is incredibly fickle and only worthwhile when the swell is HUGE and from the northern quarter... The Valla to Hungry Head stretch is very sharky (bulls /whites/bronzies) ...

Re: Does surf Journalism need to change?
Japanese Surf mags are the A-bomb! The editorial tone is educational; rather than the anecdotal, contrived, salacious or dictatorial dross we choose to endure. In short: _ In-depth articles regarding the mechanics and functionality of equipment. _ Anatomical analysis of technique and what constitute...

Re: A rather enlightening article re AI..
Do we need to know anything? ... some find ignorance bliss. The 'system' is based based on this premise Did we need to know who shot JFK? The assassination of an American President at a (relative) crucial Geo-political point in time, which his participation was both fulcrum and nexus, does warrant ...
