Re: Twin fins as go-to boards

I have a Webber Mini Fish that I love although at 3" thick it's very corky and rides on rather than in the wave. I got Webber to custom make one for me, 6' 3", pinched in overall to 20" wide and 2 3/8" thick. Obviously it's a bit harder to paddle, I'm 95 kg, but it's just as fast as the stock board ...

Re: " but I still love the old world"....Where to from here?

The only true rebels left now are the boat people, escaping their lousy, wearying confines in search of a better world. Fleeing Iraq in a leaky boat is the Muslim version of heading north from Sydney in an EK station wagon in the early '70's. Keep up the search!

Re: Where did you surf today ?

I am absolutely sick and tired of wankers on 12 ft mals on big but soft days hogging the sets. They can barely manage a bottom turn but catch waves 10 minutes before anyone on shorter gear can get into them and are completely void of any decency or manners or interest in fair play. From yesterday fo...

Re: Surf Etiquette in the Line-up

Before you read about it in the Manly Daily, let me state the facts: It's been a decent swell pitching hard onto shallow banks and breaking real fast. If you've just dropped into the pit on your backhand and hanging on by your toenails, you're entitled to call off a kook about to drop in and have yo...

Re: Surfing Sydney Airport, early 1960s.

Bare Island was occasionally surfed in big swells. I've got a copy of an old Surfer mag from '66 with a several page spread. Is that a semi regular occurance these days when there's a bit of swell?

Did you go for an old standard three hinge or the now popular four hinge model....I've heard the three hinge works fine in most situations but the four hinge fits tighter in the jamb...

Re: Ode to the round-tailed quad.

I've got a S7 super fish quad . I love it. I'm thinking of getting a new bord . How do you reckon your bords woud compare. How much are they and what shops in Sydney sell them Sorry Happy, there's no shops in the western suburbs stocking More surfboards and even if they did, they probably wouldn't ...

Re: Ode to the round-tailed quad.

Simon ( see, I could easily have gone with Simple ) Like I said, I'm a thruster man because I love them, understand them and they work beautifully. Quads.... I've not been converted although I have no real experience on them. I can't get my head around any perceived advantage. I remember Glen Winton...

Re: Ode to the round-tailed quad.

One more thing Steve, the fin setup on that board looks way more effective to me than rear fins closer to the rails. I can start to accept the possibilities there. Have you surfed anything with a more rail oriented setup and if so, how do they compare.

Re: Ode to the round-tailed quad.

Shearer, I'm a thruster man through and through, although I do love my Webber Minifish twinnie when the conditions are right ( most weeks in Sydney ). I'm yet to be converted to quaddies so I'm no expert on the subject but everyone reckons they are faster than thrusters due to no centre fin drag. My...

Re: Surf Etiquette in the Line-up

Marcus, Nappycrapper has anger issues because he has red hair and freckles and is most commonly referred to as a ranga. He hates himself, which manifests itself in his manic posts in these forums. I've advised him to dye his hair and apply some type of foundation to cover his spots but it seems he's...

No Happy, you didn't have a go at me because I'm a kook but because you're a ranga and ranga's are just filthy on the world because of the state of their head. You can't do much about your freckles but at least you could dye your hair black and wear contacts instead of those Coke bottle glasses. Or ...

Re: A Moving Letter from Gerry Lopez

$50,000 is way too much prize money for a women's longboard event. If they had to sell tickets to raise the prizemoney it would come to more like $50. And that's only if the contestants had boyfriends ( or girlfriends in this case ) who would bother going to watch rather than cop the nagging. Women'...
