Re: that wetsuit discussion...

Thanks all. I found an Ocean & Earth backzip at Goodtime, but I'm going to check out Aleeda. They said they would do a 3/2 like Steve was commenting on, for $50-60 extra. Not off the rack, but not too bad if I can get exactly what I want. I've been getting O'Neills for years, but the last one just d...

Re: that wetsuit discussion...

Anyone have feedback about Aleeda wetsuits? The zip on my not so old O'Neill keeps coming down. Not sure what Ripcurl, Billabong and Quiksilver are like these days. I'm after a backzip springsuit.

Thanks Alakaboo. The map was useful, for when travels may again be a possibility.

Thanks Cranked. An argument for not making assumptions about tide times.

Only two tides per day in WA?

A mate asked me about this and I don't have a clue. Mandurah is reported having only two tides for September 26 and 27, but 3 times for the 28th and 4 for 29th and 30th. https://tides.willyweather.com.au/wa/peel/mandurah.html I checked another site and it also reported only 2 tides for the 26th. On ...

Fiji tipping

Being a general non-tipper what's a fair tip for a boat man/guide in Fiji?

Re: correct paddling technique?

Having been through a lot of this, the starting point is a proper diagnosis. Somebody else's solution may work for them, but their problem might be very different, even though the shoulder seems to be the issue. Massage can be helpful to reduce muscle tension and some good masseuses can work trigger...

Thanks for the thought Wyre. I've no idea who TMS is but I know Steve. I ended up passing on the Maldives in favour of an extra week in Africa.

Maldives options

I may be able to organise a Maldives stop-over but have heard it can get crowded, especially North Male. I've heard of other islands. I'll be travelling with my wife, so a boat trip is out. The far southern atolls sound promising but may be limited with accommodation. Any suggestions. I'll be travel...

Re: Wave models

I had the recent experience of being in South Africa and struggled to find a surf forecast that gave a reasonably accurate forecast - the forecast winds were regularly wrong so I reverted back to weather maps. Which reminded me of a mate's old web site which now lives elsewhere: http://www.surfingva...

Re: Europe in September

I'd agree with Saltman. I'd keep an eye on the forecast and play it by ear. There are quite a few surfcams to help you make up your mind. The flight from Biarritz to Paris, is a good way to go. There are lots of posts about French travel on the Magic Seaweed forum. I've surfed in France 5 times, mos...

Thanks Steve.

I'll check this option out and look into the non-surfer options to keep things moving.

Sounds like the beer was cheaper than some recommended boat tips I've read about.

What is the rate in beer for an extra hour?

Re: Fiji advice

The plantation island blurb reads like you can 1) choose to surf either the advanced or intermediate option, then 2) a break is selected once you've locked in an option. From the web-site: "You cannot choose to visit all breaks and decide to surf the best, breaks must be chosen before departing (we’...
