Re: Belly boards

There is an argument for keeping it simple the first time around. Bonzer fin placement is something of an art. You may also find the bonzer needs a bit of power to get going. Here is a link to my latest board (there are 4 board photos): https://www.instagram.com/p/BdeRNVgFdJx/?hl=en&taken-by=chrisga...

Re: Belly boards

Hello Digger, I've been riding bellyboards since 2004, initially due to back problems but in more recent years through preference. Chris Garrett (aka Phantom) has made my last 6 and there is another on the way: For these boards see: http://mypaipoboards.org/forum3/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=746 They are al...

Re: Scotland

I stayed on the Isle of Lewis for a week in summer a couple of years ago. How could I not score waves if they might be windy. Instead, perfect blue skies light offshore winds and for a few days tiny lines from a distant groundswell. I got far bigger waves, though fluked, in Italy. Harris, looked lik...

Re: Shortboard Hydrofoils

Channel 9 Qld weather/surf report last night had a guy on a SUP foil. He was planning along and then he seemed to catch an edge or he just nose-dived.

Re: County Clare.

Steve, I had a few days in County Clare, around Spanish Point, a couple of years ago. The big downside to this section of the coast is that when the prevailing SW blows it is a pretty straight section of coast without a lot of protection, so can get blownout. There are spots with some shelter, but t...

Re: west coast Ireland.

Steve, I was in Ireland 3 years ago. Stayed near Spanish Point. Downside of this area is that when the onshore blows no-where is protected. Lahinch was barely breaking while Spanish Point was solid. County Sligo was a different story. First morning I was confronted with a bay which had lefts breakin...

Re: Vale Dave Jackman

On top of all that he was a decent bloke. I had the pleasure of meeting him three years ago. A bloke I had organised to meet with had said, do you want to meet Dave Jackman? So we wandered around around to his house and Dave welcomed us in. Although not well even then, he was generous with his time ...

Re: Remote car keys

Last year I hired some late model cars in France and the Renault had a thin wide gizmo that wouldn't fit into the surflock I travelled with while the other car didn't have a door keyhole at all - all electronic/no key. All I could do with Car # 1 was to stick the starter thingo above the wheel or ta...

Re: Rotator Cuff Exercises

My physio also said breastroke was better for the shoulders, however, said if you have neck problems, it's not so good. Of course, I have both. Much overlooked is the importance of good posture as has been said with the shoulders sitting back. If you sit and type its very hard not to develop bad pos...

Re: Rotator Cuff Exercises

It depends how serious it is. I've had rotator cuff problems for 20 or so years - most recently an ultrasound and x-ray revealed a tear and bursitis with associated impingement. I was prescribed the exercise sandfly described but have been told to hold it for a minute because you are not stretching ...

Thanks guys. The surf cargo suggestion enabled me to find a few other posts - I think surf cargo only travel Gold Coast to Sydney.

Freighting a surfboard

I'm looking for recommendations regarding companies to send a board from Brisbane to either Wollongong or Melbourne.

Thanks

Re: larger surf lock

After having my car stolen (forget the magnetic keybox you put under the car) - the spotter on the hill took care of that, I use a surf lock. Usually, the surf lock containing the real key is locked inside the car, and the dummy key is worn on a lanyard out in the surf. Traveling, I take the SL OS t...

Re: Irish surf spot threatened - support the waves

Hello Huie, I'd read in the CM about plans to stabilise the road using technology applied to Pisa's leaning tower. If this isn't what you are referring to, can you post a link so I can read about it? A search using 'Noosa " + "First Point" was too general. A while back they wanted to try an artifici...

Re: latest list of interviews with paipo riders

Mark, I've met Warren - he's a very good mat rider. I believe he has an alaia but doesn't surf it much. Warren follows some of the interviews that we have done. PM me with your e-mail address and I'll see what you were interested to ask warren and I'll see if it fits into the scope. I'm working on a...
