Re: Sun Screen

Carcinogen free sunscreens are redly available ... but at 76 years old your biggest challenge would be trying to remember where you left it.

Much higher risk of not making a set wave. As opposed to a guaranteed high point wave.
Fcuk I’m glad we canned going up there. We would have been staying in the middle of the comp zone.

Re: Just general surfing stuff

Few slabby pits behind the rock. The contestants are all shoulder hopping. I was thinking along similar lines. Not the shoulder hopping, but opportunities behind the rock. There probably weren't enough coming through to warrant sitting there while the other competitors racked up good scores on the ...

I much prefer it as a CT event.

Re: Just general surfing stuff

You prefer it as a second tier (CS) or top tier (CT) event? I much prefer it as a CT event. I'd definitely prefer it to be part of the Championship Tour. Snapper is usually a pretty fair playing field, giving contestants an even chance, as opposed to somewhere like Margies, which apart from the fin...

Re: Just general surfing stuff

I don't mind having the Challenger Series here. Its good for the economy and Snapper is the perfect platform to hold a contest. The infrastructure doesn't have any long term impact, but it does create a carnival atmosphere, when they cordon off the Snapper Rocks Rd. Beach announcers serve more than ...

For the life of me I can't see any advantage in that nose design ... you could square it off, round it off or leave it fucking pointy and achieve the same results.

Catching up on Margs. Sammy Pupo interview was brutal. Poor bastard.
And he was the winner.

I'm probably one of the few people who actually like the idea of a mid-season cut, but what I don't like is sending the competitors out in sub-par conditions with so much at stake.

Re: Just general surfing stuff

I remember NC years ago saying in a fin discussion here, that plain old fibreglass fins were the best. Any other rigid construction that cost more was a waste of money. There are two variations of fibreglass fins, the original layered fibreglass, that gets cut from a template and foiled, and the fi...

Re: Just general surfing stuff

I have. Had a beautiful custom 6'9" Peter MCabe step-up. Came with cheap plastic FCS fins. I'll never forget the day I swapped those out for a stiff pair of fibreglass fins of the same template. It literally was like going from driving on bald tyres in the rain to feeling like I was in a Porsche wi...

Re: Just general surfing stuff

yep. Total fin area is easy to feel. Different materials easier to feel. Confirmation bias, moite. I’m certain that in properly blinded testing you wouldn’t be able to pick up any differences Indeed. Fin size and template variations are definitely noticeable to most, but separating the nuances betw...

Re: Just general surfing stuff

FCS bringing out a few more classic templates (like MF, AM) in fibreglass and marketing it like it’s a new breakthrough after years of telling everyone how good honeycomb, carbon, and hollow fins are. Most punters wouldn't notice much difference between the different technologies, performance wise.
