Re: Josh Dowling Designs

Hey Beery - You found the limit for hold at about head-high, about as expected with the massive tail area. I'd like to hear how it goes with some big twinnys and tiny rears. The buddy-with-the-camera has been sorting the photos of the last 4 boards before NY in chronological order, but not yours yet...

Re: South coast this week?

Hey Mr Vic, I've made that journey many many times in the bad ol' pre-internet days... Fluked it amazingly with Merimbula bar, Aussie pipe and various notorious spots around Ulladulla... It's a wonderful slice of Australia...but I know that's not your point... Sooooo...I'm not assuming you're not fa...

I don't. In saying camera angles, I did'nt make the assumption that the land camera was a gopro.

Is it possible to get any depth of field for distance shooting with one of those weeny 'lil things? I don't know.

Re: Josh Dowling Designs

Hey Beery - that's the idea hey, loads of float for getting you moving on next-to-no wave. With the lightness also, it should be easy to keep it in the steepest bit and stay planing. Like, corky even, god forbid. The added cant in your yellow fins may indeed be over the top - loads of cant means the...

Re: Go Pros and Surfing

Good to see some people are in favour of them, though not me Don't get me wrong Teepee - the things have gone cheap and gay and well past their use-by date. Facebook selfies for surfers. Though again I enjoyed the Skeleton bay footage I linked you to, in some part because of the multi-camera angles...

Re: Go Pros and Surfing

I bemoaned the loss of actual cinematography with the advent of Gopro... The Dick Hooles and Warren Bolsters of hanging-in-the-lip-at-pipe-with a $10,000 camera are gone, and possibly the talent with it. But then I watched this - these guys at Skeleton bay have at points got three Go-pros going at o...

Re: Josh Dowling Designs

I picked up a bomb proof 5'4" package an hour ago. Will update with pics in the next few days when I get a chance. Very excited!! Hey mate, did it take you that long to undo the wrapping? It'd be a good birthday party pass-the-parcel. I've done pics with my buddy the real photographer - give him th...

Re: Josh Dowling Designs

Yo 'Llo - I would'nt go there - that looks like major fnuck-up potential in the wrong hands. I'd do it to a new board if my arm was twisted, but retro-fittng - nup. But Jam71 - thanks for the nod. Are you a facebook friend or just lurking? Here's the said yellow board, the Drifter - 6' x 21 x 2 5/8 ...

Re: Josh Dowling Designs

Josh, are those diagonals more for aesthetics or are you deliberately trying to doctor some sort of flex result? Flex, yes Capt. Good ol' wood will of course be stiffest along it's grain length, so the diagonal part will flex a little more. It's not rocket science...heck, it's not even "hi-tech" re...

Re: Josh Dowling Designs

I did a few very satisfying cutbacks and found the board to have some sort of self righting mechanism, a few floaters and stuff that I should have fallen on but somehow came out of. Well then that's what it's all about! The fin cluster is closer together, true, though the big fins do make it look m...

I'm not quite there yet Daz! Thinking about it for five mins... my nominations would be - not necessarily restricted to... MR - world championship twin fins. Michael Petersen - fang tail. Terry Fitzgerald - winged pintail (with psychedelic airbrush, of course!) Geoff McCoy - Cheyne Horan bumtail/sta...

Re: Josh Dowling Designs

Hey Topher - We'll have to wait for Wingnut to pipe up on how the Chalice goes - I know he suffered through that hideous east coast flat spell right through his little road trip, the one the board was meant for! That was a while ago though. Anyway, the Frankenboard should be in possession of Matticu...

Re: Redbull Decades - iconic boards

It's interesting seeing those guys restricted on those boards - they would learn more about board design than on a dozen different 6'1 thrusters.
