light medium or heavy

Everyones talking about glass weights , but what I want to know is what do people think about TOTAL board weight ? Like some guys want a really light mal and others say some mals are too light and you need more weight. So putting aside snap strength , deck strength , ding strength etc what do you th...

" jeans are so stoopidly tight, that its straight outa the G.A.Y club @ss seams cut so high it feels like im flossing my butt. You have to blame womens fashion for this one. Years back girls used to go around in tights/ stretch "leggings and part of that fashion was skin tight STRETCH gear that woul...

Surf clothing

SO what do you expect with these manufacturers ? the stuff is made offshore for a pittance then sold at premium prices because they can charge that. In my mind some surfers will pay a lot just because of the label .You could say that stuff sold in Taget ,Kmart etc is made offshore for nicks but at l...

Sharp Noses

I gotta agree with the rounded nose thing - sharp noses serve no purpose, break off easily and are dangerous .Go to a rounded nose and the short board is one more feature safer ! Irrespective of the sharp fins pin tail, swallow tail and leashes at least one step forward has been made.

Surftech and lightness

This thing about how a surftech boar feels different could have some merit in it ,in that the surftech board has most of its mass around its surface - ie 2 layers of glass and hwt PVC foam between these with a really lightwt core whereas the usual board has more mass towards the centre of the board ...

Surftech etc boards

It may well be that Surftech have fixed the water problem and good luck to them if they have ! Someone made an analogy to a styrene coffee cup >i would see this as a real furphy as these cups are injection molded in a full on steel mold in a injection moulder ... Now unless surftech are injection mo...

Surftech and lightness

About the lightness of surftech boards being a disadvantage ? I thought this was touted as an advantage ! If you want a heavier board then you can always get a glasser who works with epoxy to put another layer of glass with epoxy over it but then the epoxy will have a tint to it and you will have to...

Surftech etc boards

Actually my comment is based on experience with a surftech board i had . I got a beaut fin chop that went right through into the core and the thing soaked a lot of water . Mind you surftech may have swictched foams - like the board i had definitely had a styrafoam /coolite structure to it and it see...

Surftech etc boards

I would agree that the surftech boards are far more durable than a polyester board - especially in terms of dinging .whether theye are mor snap proof is debatable - like when you go through the theory of sandwich construction (as used in surtech ) it should be stronger and less snappable but ... To ...

lost board

It may seem a stupid thing to ask , but did you check with your local police as to if anyone handed it in ? I lost a wettie years back at Manly and some kind soul had taken it around to the cop shop ... Me thinks it a good idea to take a pic of your board in case this happens and it would be a real ...

Interesting to hear that some boards are too light to surf properly ! The guys i know are obsessed with light boards - cant get them too light ! Now I see some saying tuflite are too light .This being the case, why not go off to your local glasser and get them to whack another layer of glass on yur ...

I found that I keep really warm by wearing a lycra wettie under a steamer - that is I went to a dive shop and got a "stinger suit"/ lycra full steamer thingo that divers wear under their wetties to add warmth. Also it makes getting out of a steamer just so much easier when yu have one of these on ...

Blue boards

Actually, Re the cost of surftech type boards, I was able to get a maker to supply me with a 9' mal glassed with epoxy in a sandwich construction nearly the same as surftechs - ie one coat of glass, divinylcell 3 mm foam vacuum bagged on , then another layer of glass with epoxy with urethane color c...

You can now buy foam blanks made in china -isnt it wonderful to see just how everything is going to be made in china ? I agree with you re the surftech boards though - they are a different beast to a poly board and you cant make a surftech here in OZ (yet) so if you want one its got top come from th...

Right On SMW 1 ! You got my point exactly ! Why deride Surftech or anyone else's brand thats like surftech when so many of the well known brand boards are mass produced replicas of a prototype shape. That shape was probably a great performer, but its been replicated hundreds, if not thousands of time...
