Re: Remote car keys
If you have a car with proximity keys, the key needs to be at least a metre away from anydoor or boot button otherwise anyone can just press your door button & open the car & start it. Buy a surf key & leave your proximity key under the bonnet near the passenger side headlight. Again leads to proble...

Re: rotator cuff injuries
I was unable to surf for almost 1 year after shoulder surgery but when you are ready swimming is the best exercise. Full rotation of the arm with swimmimg action & breathing technique is the way to go

Re: Surfing Sydney Airport, early 1960s.
I totally agree with this story as I watched from Sir Joseph Banks Park people surfing from the tip of Yarra Bay all the way to where the customs boats used to dock. It would have been around 73 or 74 and the waves were perfect lefts about 2 metres. As you head south on southern cross drive past the ...

Re: Flexlite boards
try out both styles (i.e Tufflite & Flexlite) before you commit.I have had a couple of both styles & admit that I'm only average ability but flexlite feels to be a far better board. It is amazingly strong but still flexes out of turns where as a tufflite feels so stiff & bounces on choppy surfaces. ...

36'C & people wearing steamers ?
Can't wait for winter with so many people wearing steamers at the moment. August will be so uncrowded as surely these people won't be wearing 5/6 rubber & booties in Sydney ?

Re: widowmaker and bonzers
Have recently got my 3rd Rusty "Piranha". This one in EPS/Epoxy 6'6" x 21" x 2 1/2". Board is much faster than a thruster but does'nt turn as well. This would not suit young gun but as I'm over 50 it is a really nice cruisy board without getting into something way bigger. C5 fin set-up looks strange...

Re: correct paddling technique?
Nick,
I wish you had mentioned this technique back in the mid 60's. Would have saved me the surgery on 9/12/08. Doc says with following all therapy course to the letter September may a good time to attempt surfing again. Thanks for the info. Am going to celebrate the event with new board

I can remember going into Waltons at Bankstown to see the Shane pop-outs sold next to the Winchester rifles circa 1970, I also remember going to the Age shop between Lakemba & Wiley Park train stations to buy some matting and resin. This purchase was to destroy a perfect Bill Wallace 7'6" pin tail w...

shark at Manly today
any of you guys see the shark trying to beach itself at Manly today. 2 people from Oceanworld went out in the surf clubs rubber duckie & tried to catch it with a fishing landing net ? The shark looked at least 5' long so I don't know what they were going to do with their butterfly net. Looked pretty...

I can't believe that I've never seen the guy's from M8R8 testing their boards on the Parramatta river at Sth granville every time the rivercat goes past. Awesome pearlers or is that waves at Sth Granville point. The thrill of standing on a fibreglass vessel gliding towards mecca powered by the swell...

For the guys over 50 you may understand. 1st board after standard thruster (not wishing to go mal path) 6"6" McCoy Nugget. Nice board but a bit of a flat skatey feel. Trade for a Rusty Piranha C5 6'7", great board but cut in two by mal riding tourist. Replace with 6'6' Rusty C5 again but now find it...

I have been buying boards for over 35 years & about 85% would be off the rack, the rest custom or self made or glassed. As you get older your requirements change due to your flexibility & physical condition so you may want that nice looking shortboard under your arm but in fact your board is 1/2" th...

Rusty 6'6" T2 Flexlite. Being over 50 yrs & 80 kg this board suits me perfectly as it has that extra flotation to carry my middle age spread & lack of fitness but it still performs like a good shortboard
