Re: Winter: La Nina refuses to leave the building.
I see your point. There are still warm anomalies through the Coral Sea which may be something that persists post La Nina events and enhances low development/rainfall. http://www.weatherzone.com.au/climate/indicator_sst.jsp?c=ssta However, looking at the eastern equatorial Pacific things are swinging...

Re: Winter: La Nina refuses to leave the building.
La Nina is well and truly done based on all indicators, so I don't understand this title. East Coast Lows are most frequent in June, so no surprises with the past week and the forecast charts for the week to come.

Re: Cape Sorell Waverider Buoy
If you want an ultra simple formula. Try sig wave heights and max wave heights at Sorrel in metres = wave height in feet at Flinders (for anything with a peak swell period over 12-13 seconds). Eg. 4m sig and 6m max at Sorrel equals 4-6ft at the outer reefs at Flinders. Allow about 4 hours time lag. ...

You could always go to your local independent surf store...
I'm sure they'll stock the Oakley M-Frame sunglasses you are after, along with those hang-ten and 'catchit' tank tops that you love.

Cyclops - I think it was the WA bodyboard crew. Chris White - Tension vids - Brad Hughes, Chad Jackson (broke his back out there on one of the first of second sessions), Dave Winchester and Sean Virtue who surfed Cyclops first - maybe 8-10 years ago (see Tension 3, 4 or 5). Shippies - A surfing frie...

Nick's 'deep S/SE swell' pushed up to 2ft or so at Tama yesterday afternoon. Not very big but a few little rides coming in off the reef late afternoon.

Re: the forecasters missed this
On a quick scan of the charts it looks like it will produce a little bit although the movement of the system is pretty quick and the duration of the winds aren't great. Nick, are you referring to the initial W/SW fetch that passed to the south of the Tasman overnight or the secondary S/SW fetch curr...

Basalt foreground, so I'm guessing either Phillip Island, Cape Shanck or Apollo Bay. Given you seem to surf on the west coast my guess is Apollo Bay (although the sun angle doesn't seem quite right). Was the pic taken on Sunday morning?

^^^ Beaumaris is better apparently, pretty sure there is a decent left-hander there off the point but you need big winds for it to work. Wave Periods may get up to 20 seconds this weekend as well... The leading edge of the swell hit the Point Nepean buoy at 1am this morning with 23 second periods a...

Re: Flat Spell
The 'Surf Coast' refers to the Great Ocean stretch between Barwon Heads and the Apollo Bay in Victoria. I think it was probably labeled that in the past 10 years as part of a tourist selling point. Probably at a similar time to Bells Beach becoming Australia's first surfing recreational reserve. It ...
