hey, I was in Puket and got some waves, nothing classic, just localised wind swell but it did get to 3 ft face. right hand points - La Lib, Zun Zul, Km54 and a bunch of others that are eaisly accessable from the main road along the coast. If you hire a car from La Lib and shoot west long the coast.
Know some spanish, take some stickers for the gromets, and let a few go to the locals.

Costa Rica - the most over rated surf desination in Central America
Crowded - expensive and full of US refugees.
If you want long left handers - South America is full of them and very few surfers.
Chile - Peru is the go, and the culture is less tainted.
