Re: Just general surfing stuff
No cabins, Cranked. Must be thinking of the Nasho's southern beachies. Best walk in is the second carpark along Bundeena Rd - 45 mins each way. Slightly more shade and can jump in the Deer Pool on hot days. No matter which way you go, you won't know if the effort is worth it till the very end. Expec...

Re: Just general surfing stuff
Saw on Swellnet that Gee from Chix surf school copped it in the comments section from a few keyboard warriors. Legend lady but doubt a male surf coach would get the same. To be fair, Gee copped it, not about being a woman, but for crowding the surf, which is the standard criticism of surf schools. ...

Re: Just general surfing stuff
...and just for what it's worth, I was brought up at Cronulla and now live at Thirroul, two hardcore blue-collar surf towns, yet I've never seen a woman cop a hard time in the surf. My experience means nothing though, from speaking to Bec a large percentage of the wrong-headed behaviour happens when...

Re: Mentawai quiver.
Looks like a quiver decision has been made for me....tried to get a stripped fcs grub screw out of a board and made a right mess of it. anyone had any luck with that before? FCS keys are 3/32, or 2.3mm, Allen keys. You need to get an Allen key the next size up (7/64 or 2.8 mm) and file the edges do...

Re: Just general surfing stuff
fcukikng. hell, cloudbreak is about to get bombed. Bigly and repeatedly. Aye. Often those S Ocean storms hit one or the other: Cloudbreak or Teahupoo, depending upon which side of NZ they travel. But the last week or so there's been some mightily impressive lows forming below Tasmania, broad and de...

Re: Just general surfing stuff
Maybe...one part of me was thinking 'What's wrong with stretching yourself?' It can even be an ongoing lifelong situation, yet Pikelet reached his limits in teeangehood.
But then there's also something to be said about going against the prevailing pressures, and I guess Winton says it.

Re: Just general surfing stuff
The last third of nearly all his books are a mess. Agree. I went and saw the premiere the other night and had pre-judged it a stinker because of that, but instead I came away all lightheaded and enthused. Wasn't a great fan of the book, Winton can often lead you into unlikely scenarios yet somehow ...

Re: Just general surfing stuff
I agree, the model and the product are set and they've made few changes to those. However, to make the biz model work they need eyeballs and since writing those first articles I've been watching their online strategies - the means to increase those eyeballs - pretty closely. Some things are simply l...

Re: Just general surfing stuff
Media strategies I'm referring to. How they've utilised social media to expand their reach. I noticed a subtle shift not long after the WSL came on and they began to cast their net, not just over 'pro surf', but over anything to do with surfing. Sounds small but they repositioned themselves as the o...

Re: Just general surfing stuff
WSL viewers have been slowly rising the last few years. Not a great amount but the upwards trend is easily tracked via the link management platforms the WSL uses. Quantification ain't rock solid using this method but the trend is. The good thing about it - link tracking that is - is you can also see...

Re: The big NE swell this weekend
Stiff cross/offshore . Yep there is and was a left breaking the other side of the point. Uncontested, empty, but even more wind affected as it's more exposed (doesn't wrap into a point) Rode my eight foot pintail. Went well, but in hindsight I'd have probably caught more waves on the seven foot out...

Re: What shortboard
I'm riding it as a quad with FCS H2 front fins for extra lift, and on the rears I'm using the front fins from an FCS AM set. Any rear fins with generous surface area and extra rake would be good - it's a short board with little rail line so you want drive. I'm not too bothered about the AMs being si...

Re: What shortboard
Firewire Baked Potato LFT 5'7 vs Stacey Return of the Jam 6'0 (both 39L)? Anyone have any experience or thoughts on these two? Looking for a small wave machine that can handle up to head high with some fin adjustments. (39yo 75kg) A 5'7" FW Baked Potato is very generously volumed. I weigh just a co...

Re: Tell me about quads
Keen to get back on a thruster to see how it compares - it's been ages since i've ridden a thruster. First thing I noticed was lots more re-entries and snaps, and lots less cutbacks. Agree that you get more speed on a quad which will put you out on the shoulder, but that's only if you take a consta...

Nature hates a straight line but I don't know how keen it is on Erle's jet bottom's either.
