Re: La Nina 20/21

the more I look at this coast and the patterns the more I realise I don't have a fuschia clue about it really. I was thinking about winter swells over the years after this year's amazing events and got hold of some pics a friend of mine posted. This was from June 1968, showed a 20’+ easterly grounds...

Re: La Nina 20/21

they're a bit different when the IOD is negative and the southern annular thing goes a bit retro, ike they appear to be about to do in sync with this La Nina. Effects are magnified. See winter 2007, summer 98/99, 1974.

Re: Nth NSW sharks. Can they p!ss off already?

kunji different shark species behave differently. Tigers can be quite shy and v cautious around people, it can be hard to get them in close on shark dives - they'll stay about 250m out and circle, checking everything out, but never coming within sight range. White sharks don't seem very timid at all...

Re: Nth NSW sharks. Can they p!ss off already?

Steve, how do the "smart" drum lines work? You asked shearer but I guess he missed it. Smart drumlines have 4g responders attached to the drum. There's a hook drifting a couple of metres under, baited with fish, usually a whole mullet. The whole thing is placed around 500m offshore. When a shark hi...

Re: Nth NSW sharks. Can they p!ss off already?

here's the CSIRO summary from 2018 on DNA research into white shark populations: Looking for brothers and sisters among juvenile white sharks has provided the final pieces of information needed to estimate the size of populations in Australian waters. Australia has two white shark populations, an ea...

Re: Nth NSW sharks. Can they p!ss off already?

bomboraa it's a point but there's a lot of salmon out there. No lack of 'em offshore here that's for sure. The ocean's been more alive than ever. A hunch, there's more sub adult white sharks around now than there has been for decades. Protection began in the mid 1990s. These animals are 17-20 years ...

Re: Nth NSW sharks. Can they p!ss off already?

umm loofy do you know how meshing works? It doesn't hem in the coastline. These nets off Greenmount are well offshore and set at a slight angle to the coast. They are designed to catch sharks who try to set up a territory or who are looking for food by swimming back and forth outside a surf zone. Sh...

Take a break, think about it, remember that, as far as I know, there's no place like Realsurf. * If you find a better one let us know. well ...
