Re: Where did you surf today ?

I know its 3,500 rising to 8,000kJ today. Just looked it up to get that in feet, its 8' rising to 10'. 8'-10' doesn't really give me a good idea of what I'm in for. But I know surviving a 15 wave set at 4000kJ will be pretty chancy for me, 8000 I don't even want to think about. If my leash breaks th...

Re: Where did you surf today ?

Cranked you can’t be serious with the kilojoules thing... surely Off course I'm serious. That one measure, kJs, tells me all I need to know about the waves I'll encounter at various breaks around here. It succinctly summarises the complex relationship between swell period and height, the rest is lo...

Re: Where did you surf today ?

Judging from the engagement (reviews, photos etc etc) I'd estimate the global user base at around 20-50........probably euro kooks, probably the guys that designed it and built it and their friends and family. Sorry Cranked this concept is even more still born than Surftechs. Well fcuk me Steve, Su...

Re: Where did you surf today ?

How many joules? Fcuk joules Jimmy, I've moved on to newton metres* now. * One newton metre is equal to the torque resulting from a force of one newton applied perpendicularly to the end of a moment arm that is one metre long. I'm sure there's something in a newton meter for everyone, crabmeat in p...

Re: Where did you surf today ?

Tomorrow is the day, supposedly. Just got back from checking Ulus, perfect conditions, glassy, light warm offshore breeze, a lazy inconsistent but friendly looking long period swell. About 15 surfers scattered around, nymphs playing in the low tide pools as the sun sinks down behind the Java volcano...

Re: Where did you surf today ?

Six great waves today that I'll remember forever. All well over head high, twisting, writhing pedal to the metal. One 400m, the rest 200-300m, glassy uncrowded conditions. 7' zot was fast and perfect for me. No one wanted the primo takeoff position, in contrast to yesterday when there were ten or mo...

Re: Where did you surf today ?

I know spot x will get nearly all the energy, spot y most and z very little. If I was building surf forecast software I would build this info into it. I'm very surprised that no forecast site has done this already. The info to do it would be tedious to collect (easy to program and update though) but...

Re: Where did you surf today ?

I don't expect any surf forecast site to tell me the wave size for the actual breaks. Just the swell detail is sufficient.

How that affects all the local breaks varies significantly based on several factors which you both know.

Never used surf forecast.
I reckon 10,000 users world wide is pretty conservative though Legion

Re: Where did you surf today ?

I think him and his imaginary kilojoule measuring friends should be a shoe-in. Get a grip on yourself Shearer, your ego is way to fragile I think thats the pot calling the kettle etc etc settle mate, it's just a bit of light hearted banter.....you can measure in Kilojoules all you like, no need to ...

Re: Where did you surf today ?

A lot of surfers seem to be somewhat mentally challenged when estimating wave height.

Here's a video that explains how to obtain a measure of the average foot which should then be useful when estimating wave height.

Re: Where did you surf today ?

I went out yesterday at 12pm. Paddled up nearly to Padang as I waited for a lull. The set was tapering off so I started paddling out, it went pretty well for a while, nearly out before the next set but got caught by what was to be one of the bigger sets of the day. Within 15 minutes and at least 30 ...
