Re: Margaret River Pro 2018

Exactly, I expect a pro surfer to go when I wouldn't.

Re: Margaret River Pro 2018

And with that innocuous seeming paragraph the ASP begins to arise from its early death.

Re: Margaret River Pro 2018

Hahaha. The WSL and wave pools are proving to be about as far from the surfing ethos as you can get.

They are both becoming irrelevant to surfing. I have no interest in wave pools and very little for the WSL.

Has there ever been an attack at main break?
Pretty sure there hasn't.

Maybel legal issues too. They might get their arse sued of them if there was a fatality or serious injury to a surfer.

Does anyone have a clue what the legal situation would be?

Re: Where did you surf today ?

17 second period swells forecast there for Sunday. Can Perth beaches handle it? There's nothing to handle no matter how big the swell is. There's awesome coastal protection in WA due to the sunken offshore coastline. When a perfect 3m swell hits the offshore reefs it refracts in a fan shape up to n...

Re: Margaret River Pro 2018

There is probably an extra few thousand surfers in the Margaret River region (WSL plus school hols) and they have closed all the beaches using some weirdo local regulation that is enforceable. Lucky I have already booked my ticket to Bali as there will probably be sudden exodus. I've stopped surfing...

It might cause a stir but 20 1/4 isn't really wide IMHO. 20 1/4 would be a short board width for me haha. My jd is for good waves and is 21". Doesn't feel wide at all.
Ditto for me, 7 boards 6'1 to 8', all 21 1/4 to 21 3/4

Re: Margaret River Pro 2018

Left Handers tomorrow morning looks the only chance to finish the comp in decent waves. Fragile area so probably a no go even if they wanted to.

Re: Midlengths

I noticed that Cheyne Horan's latest allrounder for himself was something like 6'3 x 20.25" x 3" and a traditional nugget/zot shape. So he's still going for width and volume.

Re: Where did you surf today ?

Yeah, AJ.....just be philosophical about it. I'm continually confronting my limitations with take offs these days. Yep. Getting to my feet in a hurry doesn't happen. Lately I've been surfing Noosa a bit and you REALLY need to pop up quickly there. Forcing myself to do so has worked a bit. No proble...

Re: Where did you surf today ?

It beggars belief just how far to the very left of the kook spectrum I can actually get. Seriously, for someone who maintained a pretty grommy attitude and surfed pretty well up to my early 50s, it's fcukin depressing. I drove home this morning determined to list all of my boards on Gumtree. Don't ...

Re: Blimp used to spot sharks

Good idea but as far as I know sharks are very hard to spot in the water. About 80% of the time (I'm guessing) the water is just about opaque due to cloud, wind, reflection or suspended sediment.
