Re: Where did you surf today ?

Well there's no surf so that's a problem. But for me there's also great downill riding up in the mountains just out of town. You should hit the huge market in the old town on Sunday, hippydom and the silk road still lives. And I love the ancient temples and all the little nooks and crannies and weir...

Re: Where did you surf today ?

we got a lot of overhead surf in our neighbourhood in november, december and the start of january. it was one of the best seasons i can remember from 11 years of surfing around there. my wife and her sister were with us helping out with the business, so i got to surf a lot. felt very fortunate and ...

Re: Where did you sur3f today ?

Did you stay in the moated and walled old town? Its only about 4km x 4km and is World Heritage protected. Its like Thamel in Katmandu or Luang Prabang in Laos. Anywhere else is much like any average asian town, that is not-so-good.

Re: Where did you surf today ?

Tell us about the time you scuba dived to save those kids in the cave in Thailand, Uncle Cranky. It was nothing really Offy, it was not too far from Chiang Mai where we normally stay and when I heard the first reports I was up there in a flash to offer guidance and just help out wherever I could. I...

Re: Where did you surf today ?

The day I saved seven tender young lives. I was walking back along the beach at Garie one time and there was a bunch of young asians caught in a rip and more on the shore yelling and screaming. There were no other surfers around nor anyone else to help out. They were six in a group, the first two I ...

Re: Where did you surf today ?

About 10 years ago I was checking out a break called Bitumens - perfect day, waist high swell, 20 people out. A set came through and after I noticed a board (a mal) floating, with no rider, on the inside. There was no-one near it, no-one swimming for it. I watched for about 30 seconds, maybe the rid...

Re: Midlengths

I always recommend these boards to people getting back into surfing and then tell them to never sell them or try to advance back to short boarding. They don't need to. Of course their egos can't help so they kook out in shorties for 2-3 years and give up. As I'm getting a little older (50's plus) I...

Re: Midlengths

I've owned a few of them and did a few seasons in Roti on a 7'6. It'll go just fine in anything - head to double no problem. Much appreciated This is from their website and is pretty spot on: The Carver concept is simple: It’s a shortboard built into a wave-catching body. A powerful engine zone bet...

Re: Where did you surf today ?

I haven't surfed that much over summer and my reflects are down as you'd expect with age. It's an age and fitness game. A mid length cruise on a crescent head 4ftr sound so much more appealing than a board snapping coral reef. Come Autumn and if the surf hours are up then maybe a juicy wave like La...

Re: Just general surfing stuff

Good question. Since you asked: There's two fish and one gunny shape that are in the maybe category. My fishcuit I rode pretty exclusively for a year and a half. Had some great waves on it but it was ultimately frustrating wave count wise. Gun will probably get sold unless I move somewhere where I'...
