Re: Where did you surf today ?

Outer reefs and a low tide broke up the swell, so not much on offer and lots of dissatisfied surfers.

Re: bonzers.....the quad fad is over

It's fine for the waves around here, I may need less fin area in Bali in bigger faster waves.

By the way, the side fin area in my 5 fin Bonzer is probably the equivalent of a single 6"+ side fin.

Re: bonzers.....the quad fad is over

Huh? On Bonzer vs. 2+1. A bonzer should provide more stability and speed in critical situations. 5 inch sides. Quite large for a 2+1, cant imagine it would turn too sharply. Maybe that’s the idea. Drivey I guess. Maybe that’s why they feel similar. Your sides are way too big on the 2+1. 4 inches is...

Re: bonzers.....the quad fad is over

Having played around with a bonzer (Biscuit) and a few other 2+1s and I'm now of the opinion that the bonzers are basically 2+1s. I've also concluded that I really like the 2+1 configuration with around a 7" centre and 5" sides for any length of board. That gives them almost a thruster like turn cap...

Same place, pretty good surf today, around 10 out, but spread over 100m, lots of good bombs, sets well overhead.

Re: Where did you surf today ?

I was having a pleasant surf this morning, five of us on a point break, I'd just paddled further up the point and a bit further out, when I saw the back and dorsal fin of a large shark breaching about 30m from me. It was about 6' of its back and 2' of dorsal fin. I looked around and yelled out to th...

Re: Where did you surf today ?

Sort of. I have 4 Nuggets 6'8 to 8' and they are all really similar. The width, thickness and weight goes up so you just can't throw the bigger ones around as much, but the 7'4 and 8' (63 and 72 litres) are paddling monsters. I just love dropping in early on double overhead waves on them. I'm alread...

Re: Where did you surf today ?

Wait, so there's an inner sanctum of nugget riders? And can someone explain what hard edged rounded means? I edited my original post. Tail is as per tail in the image below, but even sharper on the edge. Rounded refers to the tail plan shape, Its so rounded that with your weight and back foot right...

Re: Where did you surf today ?

For the most part my backfoot is placed right in the middle of the fin cluster, between the front fins and rear or even a bit further back. Very easy board to turn in spite of the bulk. It’s probably only thruster I can remember where my foot is that far back, and it feels natural to have it there....

Re: Where did you surf today ?

dawn raid. Chest to head high peaks south-bra on the nuggz. Lotsa turnz When the rear foot is near the tail I reckon only about 9" of hard edged and rounded rail (plan shape) - right where the rail fin is - is engaged and it turns on a dime. I'm not sure just how many Nugget riders actually get to ...

Hmmm, perhaps I could have phrased that somewhat differently.

Re: Just general surfing stuff

Damn right! It will be at Made Bentil's place, right on the cliff top overlooking Secrets, Temples and the Bombie with the Peak and Racetrack just off to the right. Its come a long way from when his old man would wave his machete at us to keep us away from the cows when they were mating, and its sta...

Ever since I spent a year there in 1982 its been the only place that I really thought was so incredibly consistent that I lost interest in surfing anywhere else.
