That's well put. Perhaps not everyone's cup of tea.steve shearer wrote:mate, no offence but I'm a weather junkie and that looks about as enticing as prison rape.

Forecast Data in Poster Format
Not so much a discussion about surf forecasting, but more a different medium for presenting the data. 1 year of swell data in poster format. So far available for Sydney and Margs. Check 'em out and see what you think. Maybe a late Christmas present for someone? Available to order here: http://swellc...

Re: It Begins
Permit me to chime in on the logo discussion... What we have here is American college football jersey meets hipster line art detail taken too far. The slab serif doesn't look so bad IMHO, but 'ASP', set in what looks like modified HF&J's Idlewild, lacks any personality whatsover. More importantly, i...

Re: Aussie surf / weather m-sites
That works OK for large scale roaring forty type systems but often fails spectacularly with smaller, less predictable systems like tropical cyclones, ECL's, coastal troughs etc Agreed - the data has its limitations. Short lived inshore ENE winds here in Perth in winter, for example, would not show ...

Re: Aussie surf / weather m-sites
Are you just using raw NOAA data and putting it into graphs or is there an experienced forecaster actually looking at a spread of data from various sources and interpreting it? The NOAA data is almost raw, with some refinement. The site doesn't offer qualitative interpretation of the data, or ridic...

Cheers Coops.
The website itself is free, although there will probably be a minimal charge for the forthcoming forecast alerts.
The iPhone app is 1.99 - I'm aiming for an Android version in the next couple of months.

Re: Aussie surf / weather m-sites
In response to the OP, I agree totally that there is scope for a contemporary offering in the Australian surf forecast website market. After 18 months of hard work, I've just launched a re-design of http://swellcast.com.au , featuring a fully responsive layout, and covering most of these features. r...

Re: When did the rules change?
The crowds have really stepped up in Perth over the last couple of years. They erected similar signs on the Trigg - Scarborough stretch recently:

Re: Where did you surf today ?
Yeah, there were a few really really good days in late May, then they kinda went straight again, until a moderate front last weekend. Still need another good storm to sort them right out though.

Re: surf report app for android phones?
Hey Guys, We've just launched an iPhone app (Android coming soon). The app features all the tried and tested forecast data (NOAA), together with live wind updates (every half hour), wrapped in a neat UI. Our idea is to, as you mention, make it fast and easy. Here's a preview of the app: http://i2.cr...

Re: swellcast.com.au
Thanks for you feedback cactus rack. Finally got back on here!
Well we've made a lot of improvements over the last few months, and Im looking into tide software right now (playing around on a separate server). I hope to have this featured included very soon.
Cheers,
Ray

swellcast.com.au
Hi All, I've been working on a new surf forecast site for Australia over the last year. It's been a real slog, but it's starting to finally get some traction. Essentially it's a modern, simple interface for reading swell forecast data. It uses the same raw data as other forecast sites, but the overa...
