Re: So, UV resin for glassing surfboards...

Thanks Packa As I mentioned "some", Sunbake is better than some - though still not the greatest. I know of 2 board shapers that feature in the "Tracks" board guides that wont touch UV anymore as too many complaints from customers. So that must mean something. Yes sanding and blank density is very im...

Re: Free 3d print finbox templates

Thanks Spork

What plastics do you use? Do you use a home 3d printer? Have you made a different box? Or just doing a version of futures/FCS boxes?

Have you heard of or used FDM Nylon 12?

Free 3d print finbox templates

Hey All Thought this might be handy for you guys. Have any of you done any 3D printing? Materials are getting better so thought it would be worth asking if anyone wants to try it? After anyone who wants to test them? RDM - (CAD Designer) has been generous enough to give us access to FREE 3d Print fi...

Re: So, UV resin for glassing surfboards...

Hey Cpt Do you know the brand it was glassed in? - most UV resin lams are more brittle than normal lams. Think of it this way, what happens to an old board that you leave out in the sun? (apart from yellowing foam) UV rays makes plastic (resin) brittle and damaged over time - what this process does ...

Re: Gun surfboard - strength

Great stuff. Does vinylester go under any other name in the surfboard industry?. Hey Natho - Thanks - work in the industry and it cracks me up the miss-information out there! Vinylester usually goes under that name - A few surfboard builders do use it, though it has a short shelf life about 3 month...

Re: Gun surfboard - strength

Epoxy resin is known in the marine industry for its incredible toughness and bonding strength. Quality epoxy resins stick to other materials with very strong bond (2,000-p.s.i. vs. only 500-p.s.i. for vinylester and a lot less for polyester resins). In areas that must be able to flex and strain WITH...

Re: Gun surfboard - strength

Try nylextra between layers of fiberglass

so lay up would be

first layer from blank to outer skin

4oz or 6oz fibreglass
0.25 oz nylextra
4oz or 6oz fiberglass

Nyextra fibre thickens the laminate and makes it a lot stronger
