Bit of chat about the behaviour of the white that killed the poor fella; its aggro and the way it went for the legend guys trying to get the victim to shore, and its refusal to leave the area.
It's a timely reminder that they aren't shark computers, they don't follow an absolutely rigid programming. Individuals act differently. For want of a better word, they have peronalities. Some are just more aggro, bolder, than others. Same with plenty of fish. They are the fish first caught at a new spot.
Similar thing happened when the white bit the lifeguard's shortboard while he was up and riding at Dee Why a few years ago. Just the fact that he was hit while moving on a wave is unusual, and that shark stayed in virtually the same spot for hours, even when the chopper tried to scare it off. It came back to the same spot, within just a few metres, the next day, and again stayed put.
I wouldn't use the R(ogue) word, but although instinct is the massive majority of behaviour, 'personality' plays a part as well. It might indeed be something to consider in the decisions made following an attack.

And from that day on the shark was affectionately known as "Sharkpole"

This is like the shark that cruises around the entrance to the breakwater at Tuncurry. Must be the most contented shark in Australia. Always there on Dorsal.

DPI advise 2.79m White Shark tagged and released from SMART drumline at BOULDER SOUTH, Lennox Head at 01:47 pm on 20 Jun 2020.

The he shot off to the south.

Got this bigger one.

DPI advise 3.24m White Shark tagged and released from SMART drumline at SOUTH BALLINA, Ballina at 03:05 pm on 20 Jun 2020.

Was it Carroll asking about modifying behaviour?

Based on this, I might keep the kids out of the water this arvo.

Fair few sightings in these parts, further south the Port Maq and Forster receivers are going nuts.

yeah, Forster has been the main place for a few months now.

might be in that juvenile range and explain why no threat to local surfers?

we can't tell because we don't know which sharks are setting off the pings.

I check it out cause my brother in law lives there. I would say there is a shark there permanently and it's been like that for at least a year of me checking Dorsal.

I still don't buy the "official" narrative about 9/11. Oh sure, it happened, fcuk yeah. But who and why and how I'm, not convinced it was what we've been told.
