Why did you have to ruin it by adding the bit about spitroasting the barmaid? The first version was sweet, I thought. Gay as Christmas, but sweet
Re: Just general surfing stuff
I dont know GStQ, its like whenever I make something beautiful in life I always have to go and ruin it.

I'm finding myself much more excited about JJF's title campaign than I ever was about Mick or Parko
Erase.

Love the way jj surfs. Hawaiian kine. Relaxed, connected, improvisational.

Yeh he will be a popular champ
Re: Just general surfing stuff
So I need my Realsurf brothers' advice here: somehow a few years back I ended up with this 70's Skipp kneeboard with a flex tail. The thing is sick, but I haven't ever really successfully surfed it- I've tried it on a fairly weak swell and I thought it might float and get on waves well being fat as, but I struggled and suspect one needs fins and knees to surf this well. Should I try and swap it at this retro board swap they are putting on at Colefale this weekend?
Might get a sweet 70's thruster or something. Thoughts?

I'm confused, how have you tried to surf this board? And speaking of fins, what sort of fin does it have?Wyre wrote: but I struggled and suspect one needs fins and knees to surf this well.
Re: Just general surfing stuff
Sorry- yeah I meant you need fins for your feetz.
I have tried to stand up surf it with fairly horrible results. Highly probable it wasn't the board's fault.
It has a single fin

Re: Just general surfing stuff
I just remember Peter Crawford and his giant fin.
I've never ridden a kneeboard and know little on the subject, but I remember those 70s kneeboards as being considered hard to ride well. And that's on your knees.
My personal uninformed opinion, you might like to keep it as a curio, but I wouldn't be keeping the board to actually surf on, particularly as you are not a kneeboarder. I don't think it's ever going to work as a brilliant retro short board.

Womble might help. I think he does a bit of knee boarding.

You aren’t the room Yuke You are just a wonky cafe table with a missing rubber pad on the end of one leg.

I still don't buy the "official" narrative about 9/11. Oh sure, it happened, fcuk yeah. But who and why and how I'm, not convinced it was what we've been told.

Re: Just general surfing stuff
I had a foray into knee boarding in the 80's - Friar Tucks, a lot of fun. As someone said to me about 25 years ago "what's the use of kneeboarding if you don't wear fins that's the big advantage a kneelo has over a stand up". George Greenough used to wear those navy diver fins.
Re: Just general surfing stuff
I've been riding kneeboards on and off since I started surfing 40 something years ago and have never worn flippers.
In recent years my interest in kneeboarding has grown and I've been lucky enough to connect with a great bunch of other kneeboarders. The vast majority of whom wear flippers because they do give that added bit of squirt when catching waves. On the downside, getting in and out of the water or doing the run-around makes them a PITA.
Now Wyre ... thats an interesting board, but its never going to surf well as a standup. Without seeing the bottom, I'm guessing that its got a 12-18" fin-box, that should have a fin similar to the one in the shot of Peter Crawfords board. I have surfed kneeboards standing up, the trick to it is moving your weight forward to counter the more forward fin placement. They're still super lose even then, so the novelty wears off pretty quickly. If it had the correct fin then it would be heaps of fun to ride as a kneeboard.
Its definitely a collectors item, although I'm not sure what its worth. If you decide to offload it, theres a vintage kneeboard collectors Facebook page and quite a few guys around that have a passion for collecting old kneeboards.
Heres a shot I took at Yamba last year ...

Re: Just general surfing stuff
Gave a guy I worked with who knee boarded a vintage slab style kneeboard. He got rid of the fin box and made it a quad I think. I thoutthought it was a shame because it was original condition and I would have given it a crack with a big Flexi fin myself standing up.
