Watching this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Z-bBgDwi3w the scorpion looks very much like a longboard with the middle chopped out. Fine if that's what you're after but personally I'd be looking at something more like ...lost's short round.

Very wide nose (22") would limit it in hollower waves. 7'6 McTavish Carvers have good width (around 20.5" if I remember correctly), volume (mid 50s), 3 stage rocker (i.e. reasonable lift in the nose and tail, flat in the middle), concaves and can be ridden in pretty much anything. McCoys paddle in just as well but give much higher performance in good waves (Nuggets, 7'6 and under)

But really it depends on what sort of waves you normally surf and what people ride there (in the sense that you have to compete with them for waves)

Anyone tried a mayhem round nose fish? I find myself being seduced by the ad on beachgrit.

Recently I have been back on my MR 1980 retro twin and am rekindling the love affair. It even has glassed in fins

Still think the chopped down longboard with the pinned in back end is a viable option.
Would go nice on points, and still have decent hold in juicy pockets.

This is one of those GSI mid length models (so no "cool points") but the basic overall design and function looks versatile enough, as shown in the clip also

Anything from the "Crankin" stable would be good tho'. You get a cool bro' T-shirt and a block of wax for free with with every board purchased.

As soon as the model range settles down I'll be getting them mass produced in the Cobra factory in Thailand and arranging a distribution deal with Target and KMart.

I'll be looking out for some team riders too.

Im there cranky.....re: carvers....you have to remember surfboards are basically an idea in a solid form...like any design really. I stumbled on a McTavish profile kind of by chance. Having bought a MacT to surf up the north end in the flags and give the kids something to ride. A few northish swells had me taking off on some better wrapping peaks and I thought...theres something very good about how this feels.
Bought an 8' carver and have ridden so many good waves from the first go out at Nth Steine, son riding it like a mal in primary school, etc. He still loves the glide on it. Relatively recently got a carver fish cheap....slightly different in a fishy way but still had that same feel. Ive had some really good waves on that in Bali and the North Coast. I know that profile so well....and the three phase rocker. Thanks Bob.

Yep, I should be more specific. Looking at something for beachies say up to 4ftish. Was hoping for some first hand reviews. Some boards you have ridden.

Ive been down this path. I still ride short boards and they are hybrids but not fat and wide but decently foiled and medium rails, I tried those stumpy types packed with foam and it was horrible. I wouldn't buy a hybrid short board over 6'4. If going over 6'10 to say mid 7ft may I suggest a 2+1 as I don't reckon singles have the range.

Precisely. I don't want too much foam like a McCoy or similar. Something around 6'2" at most. Still shortboard styled, just a little more forgiving.

BA not sure where your located but a Psillakis Quad fish is a great compromise. I have a 6'4 with flyers in the tail for a little more hold for above shoulder height waves. Good all rounder.

Hypto is a pretty good call. Proven performer.

I've seen some really nice Chillis that would fit the bill and that short round that God save tagged would do the job.
