Tons of experience for sure, 1.5 years, plenty of time to master the sport and teach others safely and effectively....

Actually that is pretty much par for the course, My mates started up Go Ride a Wave in vicco in the late 80's and for a few months I taught a few classes, thought it would be great but was crap, when the waves were good you just wanted to be at another beach where the waves were good.
Anyway as soon as they got the business going enough that they didn't have to take classes all the crew they hired to teach were ex students as they found they were the best as the had know idea what good surf was and they thought they were cool and at beginner level you are just a glorified lifeguard.
