enough of this grasping, delusional, right-footed reactionary revisionism.
THE pipeline is a left, get used to it.

Slater reveals it is an advantage to be a natural footer at Pipe/Backdoor. Just like several of you guys stated after I asked the question in my first post.

Natural footers are getting through pipe barrels by kneeling on their rear leg and holding on to one rail with one hand. Plus, they drag their bum to slow down. It's an ugly, less skillful form of surfing and should receive a lower score.

one does get the feeling that samsung/asp held off in hopes of favouring their boy gabriel over dusty in smaller lefts than big backdoor/pipe.

go dusty

If you hold a contest in really challenging pipe, you stand a good chance of having a no name contestant win, and that might upset the corporations that sponsor the 'stars.' insert Medina for 'stars' and that quote from the vid clip sums it up nicely. They pay the money then they get to write the script.

Then they need a new script writer.

Yeah but all the ASP 'actors' and bit players and behind the scenes production crew have all learnt their lines for the finale. Several hundred million latinos americanos are waiting (nee demanding) to see their 'Samsung Galaxy' world champ crowned. Question: Why don't we have strong contingent of Japanese nationals on the WCT? Not trying to sound racist here but as a basic generalisation they have they build for surfing ie: short, stocky, low centre of gravity (much like Brazos) and fearless and can generally afford all the latest conveniences including travel to surf rich destinations.

Yes all Japanese are fearless and rich which means they should be pro surfers.

It all makes sense now.

Good question on Jap surfers, might be because they are generally shit house.

More specifically, the island of Hawaii has a long tradition of Japanese settlement and integration (they really, really wanted to integrate it in 1941!) but surely there must be 'Hawaiian' surfers with Japanese ancestry that could 'represent' Nippon based on their great grandma/grandpa etc. Much like Glen 'Micro' Hall contesting under the Irish flag. Strange to think no major Japanese corporation has sussed this opportunity out? Would make the 'world' part of the wct seem a bit more appropriate than the US/Aus/Brazil road show.

How many days left in this comp? There are still 24 surfers in contention. Re. Japanese sports, I always wondered why they never took to road cycling like Tour de France etc.

They are on the other side of the date line, so when I say Thursday, that is Friday (today) in Australia.

They have 1.5 days of comp to run. They have 3 days to run it (Thurs to Saturday). Swell will pick up Thursday afternoon (today), big on Friday, tail off on Saturday. Still too much sand and winds will not be ideal.

Probably dodgy to run on Thursday afternoon, but possibly dodgy on Saturday.
So, expect to run all day Friday, with a decision to get in the other 1/2 day on Thursday or Saturday.

On Sunday, after the contest window, the best Pipe of the season is expected. Big swell, light winds.

Just checked the Pipeline contest stream. There is an enormous sandbar... how quickly will the swell wash that away?

not quickly at all unless its big clean west swell. which what they're waiting for isn't ...

may as well hold it at gas chambers or otw at this point.

May as well let them ride SUPs in today's slop. If they let NC in the comp, he could win it. He could probably use his gun as a SUP.
